Records of one species of Phaeomyiidae and six species of Sciomyzidae (Diptera) from Norway are given: Pelidnoptera fuscipennis (Meigen, 1830)  and Dichetophora finlandica Verbeke, 1964, Euthycera fumigata (Scopoli, 1763), Pherbellia annulipes (Zetterstedt, 1846), P. griseicollis (Becker,  1900), P. grisescens (Meigen, 1830)  and Tetanura pallidiventris Fallén, 1820. INTRODUCTION
The first check-list of the Sciomyzidae of Norway 
was published by Siebke (1877). Knutson & 
Berg (1971) made a synopsis of the family. 
Rozkošný (1984) surveyed  the Sciomyzidae for 
Fennoscandia and Denmark. He listed 78 species 
from Sweden, while only 55 species have hitherto 
been recorded from Norway. The Phaeomyiidae 
was both in 1971 and 1984 treated as a subfamily 
of Sciomyzidae, no Norwegian dipterist has, 
however, extensively collected material of either 
Phaeomyiidae or Sciomyzidae. 
This is the first time Phaeomyiidae is treated as 
a separate family in the literature of Norwegian 
Diptera. Griffiths (1972) based the separation of 
Phaeomyiidae from the Sciomyzidae on genital 
structure. However, both families were treated as 
subfamilies by most authors long past this time.
Since Vala et al. (1990) proved that the larvae 
of at least one species of Phaeomyiidae are 
parasitoids of millipedes, and differ in several 
characteristics from the larvae of Sciomyzidae, 
the Phaeomyiidae have been recognized as a 
separate family (Rozkošný 1998).
This paper presents new records of one species 
of Phaeomyiidae and six species of Sciomyzidae 
collected in the last two decennials. One species, 
Euthycera fumigata (Scopoli, 1763), is new to 
Norway
Records of each species include the EIS-grid 
number, based on 50x50 squares. The distributional 
records follow the revised Strand system (Økland, 
1981).
The material is kept in Zoological Museum,

Note:  P. fuscipennis  was recorded for  the first time 
from Norway from TEI (Greve & Økland 1989), 
a second record from Ostøya in the Oslofjord  by 
Greve & Midtgaard (1992). The total Norwegian 
distribution including the three records presented 
here covers only three EIS squares. The number 
of specimens from the two localities in TEY is 
high, a total of 41 specimens. Flight time is from 
middle of June until middle of August.
Distribution: P. fuscipennis is obviously not 
common, and the few records indicate that it is 
a rare species in SE Norway. It is only recorded 
from the southernmost parts of Fennoscandia 
(Rozkošný 1984). The distribution is European, 
south to Italy.
SCIOMYZIDAE

Note:  Dichetophora finlandica was first published 
from AK by Knutson & Berg (1971), a specimen 
collected by Siebke, but not listed by him in 1877. 
Hansen & Falck (2000) in their survey from year 
1995 to year 1998 of the insect fauna of lake 
Østensjøvann, collected no additional specimens.
Rozkošný does, however, include another record 
of D. finlandica from SFI Aurland: Vassbygda in 
his provincial lists, but without mentioning it in 
the text. This is a male netted 22 July 1981 (in 
ZMB). Greve & Økland (1989) added a third 
record, a male from southern Oppland (OS), and 
Hansen & Bergsmark (1990) a fourth from their 
survey of Miletjern, eastern Buskerud (BØ). All 
together ten records, all from southern Norway, 
are known.
Distribution: The Swedish distribution of D. 
finlandica is from Skåne to Jämtland, and it is 
not considered particularly rare in Sweden. The 
distribution in Norway is restricted to the southern 
part of the country, the records are scattered and D. 
finlandica  must still be considered an uncommon 
species. The distribution is European, south to 
Bulgaria and France.
Euthycera fumigata (Scopoli, 1763)

Note: Euthycera fumigata is here recorded new to 
Norway. One female was netted by TJO in scrub 
with grass and thistles.
Distribution: E. fumigata is not rare in Denmark 
(Meier & Torp Petersen 2001) while it is not 
recorded from many provinces in Sweden  and 
it has not been reported from Finland (Rozkošný 
1984). E. fumigata is hitherto not recorded in 
North-Western Russia (Andrey Przhiboro pers.
comm.).
Pherbellia annulipes (Zetterstedt, 1846)

Note: P. annulipes was first recorded by Siebke 
(1877); the locality Marem(?Manum) near 
Tønsberg in Vestfold province is quoted by both 
Knutson & Berg (1971) and Rozkošný (1984). 
The second record from Norway was Ostøya in 
the Oslofjord (Greve & Midtgaard 1992). The 
three new records are from the same restricted

area, and all records are from EIS squares 19 and 
28. P. annulipes must be regarded as a rare species 
from a restricted area in SE Norway.
Distribution: P. annulipes  is distributed in 
Sweden north to Östergötland and was not 
recorded from Finland (Rozkošný 1984). The 
distribution is European, south to Corsica, Italy and 
the former Yugoslavia, Southern Fennoscandia is 
the northernmost area of distribution (Rozkošný 
1984).
Pherbellia griseicollis (Becker, 1900)
FØ, Sør-Varanger: Pasvik, Noatun (EIS 160), 
MT, 26 June–1 July 1990.
Note: This is the second record of P. griseicollis 
from Norway where it earlier only was recorded 
from Oppdal: Kongsvoll at 900 m a s l (Rozkošný 
1984), a locality in the alpine region in Central 
Norway. The new record is in the lowland in 
northern Norway and the Malaisetrap was situated 
in Betula sp. herbage on a wet meadow. 
Distribution:  P. griseicollis in Sweden is 
recorded from Jämtland and northwards.  The 
new record is probably the northernmost in 
Fennoscandia. P.griseicollis is further recorded 
from Murmansk and West Sibiria (Rozkošný 
1984). The distribution is Holarctic, and Orth 
(1987) presents a map of Nearctic distribution.
Biology: The biology is described by Knutson 
(1987).
Pherbellia grisescens (Meigen, 1830)

YT, 14–17 July 1986, 1♀. HOY, Tysnes: Vevatn, 
at outlet (EIS 31), net, 1 July 1992, 2♂♂6♀♀.
Note: Both Knutson & Berg (1971) and 
Rozkošný(1984) record only Ardö´s (1957) single 
locality from Rogaland where P. grisescens was 
collected near a dune lake at Orre. This locality 
was visited summer 2007, but no specimens were 
collected.
Distribution: P. grisescens is obviously fairly 
rare in Norway. It is widely distributed in Sweden 
and Finland, but also here scattered. Further 
distribution is Palaearctic and Oriental.
Tetanura pallidiventris Fallén, 1820

Note: T. pallidiventris was recorded new to 
Norway by Greve (1991) from MRY Hareidlandet. 
The new localities are spread from Rogaland in 
Southern Norway to Saltdal in Northern Norway, 
thus the total distributional area is much extended. 
T. pallidiventris  must still be regarded as fairly 
rare.
Distribution: T. pallidiventris is recorded as rather 
uncommon in both Denmark and Sweden, while 
it is widespread in Southern and Central Finland. 
It is distributed in North and Central Europe, and 
in the Far East of the former USSR (Rozkošný 
1984). The European distribution is mapped by 
Knutson (1970).
