Abstract. The presented actualized checklist is a first critical list of the Odonata from the Czech Republic. The checklist summarizes all relevant data and all species are listed in the checklist on the basis of voucher specimens. The results are based on the revisions of collections, authors´ faunistic research and literary data. So far 26 genera of Odonata with 73 species have been recorded in the territory of the Czech Republic, 71 species from Bohemia and 69 species from Moravia

Abstract. The presented actualized checklist is a first critical list of the Odonata from the Czech Republic. 
The checklist summarizes all relevant data and all species are listed in the checklist on the basis of voucher 
specimens. The results are based on the revisions of collections, authors´ faunistic research and literary data. 
So far 26 genera of Odonata with 73 species have been recorded in the territory of the Czech Republic, 71 species 
from Bohemia and 69 species from Moravia. 
 
INTRODUCTION 
 
An updated checklist of dragonflies follows on the previously published checklists 
of dragonflies (TEYROVSKÝ 1977; JEZIORSKI 1998a), and lists of dragonfly species (HANEL 
& ZELENÝ 2000; DOLNÝ et al. 2007). However, these lists are now outdated (TEYROVSKÝ 
1977; JEZIORSKI 1998a), because they do not record newly discovered species 
of dragonflies (Coenagrion scitulum, Erythromma lindenii, Nehalennia speciosa, 
Somatochlora meridionalis and Cordulegaster heros), or vice versa introduce mistakenly 
recorded species (Coenagrion mercuriale and Gomphus pulchellus) (DOLNÝ et al. 2007), 
whose occurrence is published on the basis of unreliable data and no voucher specimens 
from the Czech Republic.  
The published checklist is based on the revision of material from all major Czech, 
Moravian and Silesian museums and several others, on an extensive faunal research carried 
out by the authors during the last twenty years and on critical evaluation of published data. 
All species are listed in the checklist on the basis of voucher specimens. 
Published occurrence of Coenagrion mercuriale (Charpentier, 1840) by SLAVÍČEK 
(1930) and SCHWAB (1932), Aeshna viridis Eversmann, 1836 by PERUTÍK (1957) 
and Gomphus pulchellus Sélys, 1840 by FLÍČEK (2000) were mistakenly recorded 
from the Czech Republic in the past. Aeshna viridis was reported on the basis 
of misidentification (JEZIORSKI 1998b), Coenagrion mercuriale and Gomphus pulchellus 
on the basis of doubtful data and no voucher specimens (JEZIORSKI & HOLUŠA 2008, 2011). 
Occurrence of several further species is possible in the Czech Republic  
(e. g. Chalcolestes parvidens Artobolevski, 1929, Ceriagrion tenellum (Villers, 1789), 
Coenagrion armatum (Charpentier, 1840), as well as the above-mentioned Coenagrion 
mercuriale, Aeshna viridis and Gomphus pulchellus). 
Higher classification used in this checklist follows BRIDGES (1994), BECHLY (1996) 
and the nomenclature is accepted from DIJKSTRA & KALKMAN (2012) and mainly BOUDOT 
et al. (2009). Species within a genus and genera within a subfamily are listed in alphabetic 
order. Species that occur in the Czech Republic in the other subspecies than in nominate 
are listed in full name.

For the first records published since 1977 and for the record of Leucorrhinia 
caudalis (Charpentier, 1840) from Moravia, the primary sources are cited explicitly 
with some comments. 
The Czech Republic is traditionally divided into two main countries: Bohemia  
and Moravia (including the part of Silesia, located since 1918 in the Czechoslovakia 
(respectively in the Czech Republic); i.e. till 1948 named as the „Moravskoslezská země” 
land). The territory of Moravia in this article is meant by historical Moravia, respectively 
„Moravskoslezská země” land.

CONCLUSION 
 
Alltogether 26 genera with 73 species have been so far recorded in the Czech 
Republic, 71 species in Bohemia and 69 species in Moravia. All species are listed  
in the checklist on the basis of voucher specimens.

SOUHRN 
 
Aktualizovaný seznam vážek navazuje na v minulosti publikované checklisty vážek 
(TEYROVSKÝ 1977; JEZIORSKI 1998a) a soupisy druhů vážek (HANEL & ZELENÝ 2000; 
DOLNÝ et al. 2007). Nicméně tyto seznamy jsou v současné době neaktuální (TEYROVSKÝ 
1977; JEZIORSKI 1998a), protože neuvádějí nově zjištěné druhy vážek (Coenagrion 
scitulum, Erythromma lindenii, Nehalennia speciosa, Somatochlora meridionalis 
a Cordulegaster heros), nebo naopak mylně uvádějí (DOLNÝ et al. 2007) druhy 
(Coenagrion mercuriale a Gomphus pulchellus), o jejichž výskytu neexistují věrohodné 
údaje a dokladoví jedinci z území České republiky (JEZIORSKI & HOLUŠA 2008, 2011). 
Seznam je sestaven na základě studia materiálu mnoha muzeí v České republice 
a několika dalších sbírek, na rozsáhlém faunistickém výzkumu prováděném oběma autory 
v posledních dvaceti letech a je doplněn věrohodnými literárními údaji. Od všech druhů 
vážek uvedených v aktualizovaném seznamu jsou známí dokladoví jedinci z území České 
republiky. 
Publikované výskyty druhů Coenagrion mercuriale (SLAVÍČEK 1930; SCHWAB 
1932), Aeshna viridis (PERUTÍK 1957) a Gomphus pulchellus (FLÍČEK 2000) byly 
v minulosti chybně udávány pro území České republiky. Aeshna viridis byl udáván 
na základě chybného určení (JEZIORSKI 1998b), Coenagrion mercuriale a Gomphus 
pulchellus na základě nevěrohodných údajů bez dokladových exemplářů (JEZIORSKI & 
HOLUŠA 2008, 2011). Vedle výše zmiňovaných druhů (Coenagrion mercuriale, Gomphus 
pulchellus a Aeshna viridis) je výskyt dalších několika druhů na území České republiky 
více či méně pravděpodobný např. u Chalcolestes parvidens, Ceriagrion tenellum 
a Coenagrion armatum. 
V České republice bylo dosud zjištěno 26 rodů a 73 druhů vážek. Na území Čech 
bylo zjištěno 71 druhů a na Moravě 69 druhů. Spolehlivý výskyt byl potvrzen u všech 
uvedených druhů.
