Preparation and Magnetic Properties of Polycrystalline Eu 2 O 3 Microwires

Abstract

In this paper, large-scale Eu 2 O 3 microwires with great length were successfully fabricated by a simple and facile electrodeposition and a subsequent heat-treatment. The morphology and structure of the as-deposited and the annealing microwires were studied in detail by SEM, EDS, XPS and TEM, and the results indicate that the as-deposited Eu(OH) 3 microwires are amorphous, and Eu 2 O 3 microwires after annealing are polycrystalline with body center cubic structure. Moreover, the magnetic properties of Eu 2 O 3 microwires were also investigated. The Eu 2 O 3 sample shows a non-typical magnetism which might result from oxygen vacancies confirmed by XPS
