Educação musical e nacionalismo: a história do canto orfeônico no ensino secundário brasileiro (1930-1960)

Abstract

 Este artigo apresenta resultados de pesquisa sobre a história da disciplina Canto Orfeônico. Introduzida no ensino secundário brasileiro no início da década de 1930. O estudo examina o processo de escolarização da música coral considerando os determinantes sociais e políticos na seleção deste conhecimento escolar. As finalidades atribuídas à disciplina, as práticas escolares que gerou e a sua relação com o projeto político nacionalista de Getúlio Vargas. Para a realização da pesquisa foram utilizadas como fontes os programas para o ensino de Canto Orfeônico, manuais didáticos elaborados especificamente para a disciplina: cadernos, fotografias e depoimentos de ex-alunos e professores.Palavras-chave: história das disciplinas escolares, ensino de artes, cultura escolar.  Abstract This article presents the results of a research on the history of Orpheanic Chant (Choir Singing) subject, introduced in Brazilian secondary education at the beginning of the 1930s. The study exams the choir music schooling considering the social and political determinants in the selection of this school knowledge, the ends attributed to the subject, the school practices which it caused and its relationship to the Getúlio Vargas nationalist political project. To carry out the research, the following sources were used: the Orpheanic Chant course of study, didactic manuals specifically elaborated for the subject, notebooks, photographs and students and teachers testimonies.
