Analysis of the Australian web threat landscape
One in approximately eight Australian IPs are exposed to one or more web threats on any typical day, finds this report released by an Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage Project involving Trend Micro and Deakin University. The researchers’ analysed malicious activity from over 200,000,000 web requests per day from Australia, with around 400,000 of these issued to malicious web pages.Abstract This report discusses threats on the Australian web landscape. We analyse web logs and provide statistics on what is happening to the average Australian user of the world-wide web. The analysis covers aspects such as the volume and timing of web threats attacking Australians and the source geography of the malicious activity. We look at a case study of a web attack that had global reach and describe the impact of this attack on Australian web users
Professional Development On-line
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is making increased use of the Web to develop and support communities of professionals. This paper outlines the factors driving the adoption of CPD and highlights areas where the Web can aid in the development of successful professional communities. Current work to provide on-line support for approximately 500 teachers of computing is then presented, highlighting those aspects of the Web site designed to foster and engage participants in the professional development activity
On the digital forensic analysis of the Firefox browser via recovery of SQLite artifacts from unallocated space
A technique and supporting tool for the recovery of browsing activity (both stored and deleted) from current and recent versions of the Firefox web-browser is presented. The generality of the technique is discussed: It is applicable to any software that uses the popular SQLite embedded database engine such as the Apple Safari web-browser and many Android apps
Amazing Space: Cat's Eye Nebula (NGC 6543) Lithograph
This lithograph features Hubble Space Telescope images and includes text that describes and explains the images. There is also an accompanying inquiry-based classroom activity entitled “In Search of the Complex Structures of Planetary Nebulae.” This activity is designed to encourage the development of research skills and independent thinking. Available online as well as hardcopy. Educators can access the lithograph PDF files on the Web site and print the materials for use in their classrooms. Educational levels: High school, Informal education, General public
A tool-mediated cognitive apprenticeship approach for a computer engineering course
Teaching database engineers involves a variety of learning activities. A strong focus is on practical problems that go beyond the acquisition of knowledge. Skills and experience are equally important. We propose a virtual apprenticeship model for the knowledge- and skillsoriented Web-based education of database students. We adapt the classical cognitive apprenticeship theory to the Web context utilising scaffolding and activity theory. The choice of educational media and the forms of student interaction with the media are central success criteria
