The CLAIRE visual analytics system for analysing IR evaluation data
In this paper, we describe Combinatorial visuaL Analytics system for Information Retrieval Evaluation (CLAIRE), a Visual Analytics (VA) system for exploring and making sense of the performances of a large amount of Information Retrieval (IR) systems, in order to quickly and intuitively grasp which system configurations are preferred, what are the contributions of the different components and how these components interact together
ic2 (formerly intervention:coaction)
ic2 is a live, audiovisual, beat-and-noise-based performance work. The intention is to create a symbiotic system, in which live decision-making by the performer impacts on both the audio and visual components of the work, but also in which both the audio and visual components can interact with one another, causing behaviours that are not directly controlled by the system performer. There is also an element of chaotic behaviour built into the system, causing unpredictable audio and visual outcomes
A method to provide accessibility for visual components to vision impaired
Non-textual graphical information (line graphs, bar charts, pie charts, etc.) are increasingly
pervasive in digital scientific literature and business reports which enabling readers to easily
acquire the nature of the underlying information . These graphical components are commonly
used to present data in an easy-to interpret way. Graphs are frequently used in economics,
mathematics and other scientific subjects. In general term data visualization techniques are
useless for blind people. Being unable to access graphical information easily is a major obstacle
to blind people in pursuing a scientific study and careers .This paper suggests a method to
extract implicit information of Bar chart, Pie chart, Line chart and math’s graph components of an
electronic document and present them to vision impaired users in audio format. The goal is to
provide simple to use, efficient, and available presentation schemes for non textual which can
help vision impaired users in comprehending form without needing any further devices or
equipments. A software application has been developed based on this research. The output of
application is a textual summary of the graphic including the core content of the hypothesized
intended message of the graphic designer. The textual summary of the graphic is then conveyed
to the user by Text to Speech software .The benefit of this approach is automatic providing the
user with the message and knowledge that one would gain from viewing t
A catalog of visual double and multiple stars with eclipsing components
A new catalog of visual double systems containing eclipsing binaries as one
component is presented. The main purpose of this catalog is to compile a
complete list of all known multiples of this variety, both for current analysis
and to highlight those in need of additional observations. All available
photometric and astrometric data were analyzed, resulting in new orbits for
eight systems and new times of minimum light for a number of the eclipsing
binaries. Some of the systems in the catalog have acceptable solutions for
their visual orbits, although in most cases their orbital periods are too long
for simultaneous analysis. Also included, however, are a number of systems
which currently lack an orbital solution but which may be suitable for
simultaneous analysis in the future.Comment: 15 pages, 8 figures, 4 tables, published in A
Data-Efficient Decentralized Visual SLAM
Decentralized visual simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) is a
powerful tool for multi-robot applications in environments where absolute
positioning systems are not available. Being visual, it relies on cameras,
cheap, lightweight and versatile sensors, and being decentralized, it does not
rely on communication to a central ground station. In this work, we integrate
state-of-the-art decentralized SLAM components into a new, complete
decentralized visual SLAM system. To allow for data association and
co-optimization, existing decentralized visual SLAM systems regularly exchange
the full map data between all robots, incurring large data transfers at a
complexity that scales quadratically with the robot count. In contrast, our
method performs efficient data association in two stages: in the first stage a
compact full-image descriptor is deterministically sent to only one robot. In
the second stage, which is only executed if the first stage succeeded, the data
required for relative pose estimation is sent, again to only one robot. Thus,
data association scales linearly with the robot count and uses highly compact
place representations. For optimization, a state-of-the-art decentralized
pose-graph optimization method is used. It exchanges a minimum amount of data
which is linear with trajectory overlap. We characterize the resulting system
and identify bottlenecks in its components. The system is evaluated on publicly
available data and we provide open access to the code.Comment: 8 pages, submitted to ICRA 201
Multicolor stroboscope pinpoints resonances in vibrating components
Stroboscopic system, which uses three different colored lights, rapidly scans a multicomponent assembly and provides a visual indication of resonant components. The lights are pulsed at the same flash frequency but at different phases
