Advancing prevention of sexually transmitted infections through point-of-care testing : target product profiles and landscape analysis
Objectives: Advancing the field of point-of-care testing (POCT) for STIs can rapidly and substantially improve STI control and prevention by providing targeted, essential STI services (case detection and screening). POCT enables definitive diagnosis and appropriate treatment in a single visit and home and community-based testing.
Methods: Since 2014, the WHO Department of Reproductive Health and Research, in collaboration with technical partners, has completed four landscape analyses of promising diagnostics for use at or near the point of patient care to detect syphilis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia trachomatis, Trichomonas vaginalis and the human papillomavirus. The analyses comprised a literature review and interviews. Two International Technical Consultations on STI POCTs (2014 and 2015) resulted in the development of target product profiles (TPP). Experts in STI microbiology, laboratory diagnostics, clinical management, public health and epidemiology participated in the consultations with representation from all WHO regions.
Results: The landscape analysis identified diagnostic tests that are either available on the market, to be released in the near future or in the pipeline. The TPPs specify 28 analytical and operational characteristics of POCTs for use in different populations for surveillance, screening and case management. None of the tests that were identified in the landscape analysis met all of the targets of the TPPs.
Conclusion: More efforts of the global health community are needed to accelerate access to affordable quality-assured STI POCTs, particularly in low-and middle-income countries, by supporting the development of new diagnostic platforms as well as strengthening the validation and implementation of existing diagnostics according to internationally endorsed standards and the best available evidence
High Resolution BPM Upgrade for the ATF Damping Ring at KEK
A beam position monitor (BPM) upgrade at the KEK Accelerator Test Facility
(ATF) damping ring has been accomplished, carried out by a KEK/FNAL/SLAC
collaboration under the umbrella of the global ILC R&D effort. The upgrade
consists of a high resolution, high reproducibility read-out system, based on
analog and processing, and also implements a new automatic gain error
correction schema. The technical concept and realization as well as results of
beam studies are presented.Comment: 3 pp. 10th European Workshop on Beam Diagnostics and Instrumentation

Gas gun shock experiments with single-pulse x-ray phase contrast imaging and diffraction at the Advanced Photon Source
The highly transient nature of shock loading and pronounced microstructure
effects on dynamic materials response call for {\it in situ}, temporally and
spatially resolved, x-ray-based diagnostics. Third-generation synchrotron x-ray
sources are advantageous for x-ray phase contrast imaging (PCI) and diffraction
under dynamic loading, due to their high photon energy, high photon fluxes,
high coherency, and high pulse repetition rates. The feasibility of bulk-scale
gas gun shock experiments with dynamic x-ray PCI and diffraction measurements
was investigated at the beamline 32ID-B of the Advanced Photon Source. The
x-ray beam characteristics, experimental setup, x-ray diagnostics, and static
and dynamic test results are described. We demonstrate ultrafast, multiframe,
single-pulse PCI measurements with unprecedented temporal (100 ps) and
spatial (2 m) resolutions for bulk-scale shock experiments, as well
as single-pulse dynamic Laue diffraction. The results not only substantiate the
potential of synchrotron-based experiments for addressing a variety of shock
physics problems, but also allow us to identify the technical challenges
related to image detection, x-ray source, and dynamic loading
Status of COLDDIAG: A Cold Vacuum Chamber for Diagnostics
One of the still open issues for the development of superconducting insertion
devices is the understanding of the beam heat load. With the aim of measuring
the beam heat load to a cold bore and the hope to gain a deeper understanding
in the beam heat load mechanisms, a cold vacuum chamber for diagnostics is
under construction. The following diagnostics will be implemented: i) retarding
field analyzers to measure the electron energy and flux, ii) temperature
sensors to measure the total heat load, iii) pressure gauges, iv) and mass
spectrometers to measure the gas content. The inner vacuum chamber will be
removable in order to test different geometries and materials. This will allow
the installation of the cryostat in different synchrotron light sources.
COLDDIAG will be built to fit in a short straight section at ANKA. A first
installation at the synchrotron light source Diamond is foreseen in June 2011.
Here we describe the technical design report of this device and the planned
measurements with beam.Comment: Presented at First International Particle Accelerator Conference,

Improving root cause analysis through the integration of PLM systems with cross supply chain maintenance data
The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate a system architecture for integrating Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems with cross supply chain maintenance information to support root-cause analysis. By integrating product-data from PLM systems with warranty claims, vehicle diagnostics and technical publications, engineers were able to improve the root-cause analysis and close the information gaps. Data collection was achieved via in-depth semi-structured interviews and workshops with experts from the automotive sector. Unified Modelling Language (UML) diagrams were used to design the system architecture proposed. A user scenario is also presented to demonstrate the functionality of the system

Bases of intelligent system construction of the pipeline techniсal condition diagnostics
The urgent of creating the intelligent systems for revealing different kinds of regularities and decisionmaking in the problem area of pipeline technical condition diagnostics is considered. The technical condition diagnostics of pipeline is strongly dependent on the pipeline parameters, hydrodynamic characteristics of the pipeline-transported substance and that of environment (ambient medium). The advisability for the construction of the intelligent system for the pipeline technical condition diagnostics (IS PTCD) based on intelligent instrumental software (IIS) IMSLOG, aimed at revealing different types of regularities in data and knowledge, decision-making and its justification with using cognitive tools, is shown. The matrix way of data and knowledge representation in the problem area and the main stages of IS PTCD constructing based on IIS IMSLOG IS PTCD are given. This will allow to reveal different types of regularities in data and knowledge on the base of the features that influence on the technical condition of the pipeline and, as well as make-decisions of the diagnostic and repair- prophylactic character. IS PTCD is essentially useful for the engineers in the problem area of pipeline-transported substance for decision-making and its justification with using cognitive tools, as well as for research activities and also for student training programs in the problem area
