Technical aspects in dark matter investigations
Some theoretical and experimental aspects regarding the direct dark matter
field are mentioned. In particular some arguments, which play a relevant role
in the evaluation of model dependent interpretations of experimental results
and in comparisons, are shortly addressed.Comment: Proceedings of TAUP 2011 Conferenc

Technical aspects of a demonstration tape for three-dimensional sound displays
This document was developed to accompany an audio cassette that demonstrates work in three-dimensional auditory displays, developed at the Ames Research Center Aerospace Human Factors Division. It provides a text version of the audio material, and covers the theoretical and technical issues of spatial auditory displays in greater depth than on the cassette. The technical procedures used in the production of the audio demonstration are documented, including the methods for simulating rotorcraft radio communication, synthesizing auditory icons, and using the Convolvotron, a real-time spatialization device
A Human Rights Based Approach to Refugees: A Look at the Syrian Refugee Crisis and the Responses from Germany and the United States
Power Quality (PQ) has gained a lot of importance in the last decade. Several solutions to power quality problems have been proposed and developed. With the advent of solid state technology and power electronics in the power system protection devices, faster switching is achievable. In order to control and minimize the power quality problems which occur in extremely short times of less than 100ms, the need arises for a selection of devices that can switch faster than today. Also, the economic losses that occur in the network due to the power quality problems increase the incentive to transform the existing devices into faster and e fficient devices. This transformation can be seen as valuable from both a technical and economical point of view to the distribution networks today where a large number of customers are connected. However, in order to interpret the value these fast switching devices render to the distribution network a prior study is required. This thesis presents a picture of the devices that can be suitable for fast switching in today’s distribution network, and how to determine their value to the distribution network. Further it summarizes the research work related to this field. The description of the devices and technical aspects is presented first. A literature review of proposed devices is given. The technical aspects of power quality and its problems is described. An approach to estimate the value of the fast switching devices is detailed from different literature. The study shows that fast switching devices can be worthy to invest in when seen from a distribution network’s perspective provided that different technical aspects are taken into account
Scientometric dimensions of technical reports from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre
Technical report is one of the media to record the scientific information generated by scientists and engineers, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) published 554 technical reports during 1990-99 under the categories: External (373) and Internal (181), Engineering and technology generated 207 technical reports followed by chemistry, materials and earth sciences (129), while their interdisciplinary interactions resulted in 31 technical reports, Life and environmental sciences produced 42 technical reports,' followed by Physics (16),' Other aspects of nuclear and non-nuclear energy (6); Isotopes, isotope and radiation applications (4), Technical reports in subjects outside the scope of nuclear science and technology were 69, Scientometric analysis of these reports has been carried Out for physical bibliographic characteristics, authorship collaboration, inter-divisional collaboration, inter-institutional collaboration activities and content analysis, Types of documents referenced in the technical reports indicated first rank for journal articles, followed by books, technical reports, conference papers, standards/codes, personal communications, patents, theses, drawings, and lectures
Technical Aspects of Nodal Pricing
The expansion of renewable generation and closer integration of European power markets requires new tools and procedures for system operation. The US experience with nodal pricing offers options to tackle the emerging challenges, and thus may facilitate further integration of intermittent renewable generation technologies. At a one day roundtable hosted by CPI Berlin, experts from European transmission system operators (TSOs) and international specialists explored the technical aspects of implementing and operating a power market design based on nodal pricing, and discussed experiences that might address challenges emerging in Europe: 1. Can the interest of market participants in trading energy on short notice be balanced with TSOs’ need for sufficient time to assess and adjust the dispatch to ensure system security? 2. For generation and load, the provision of reserve and response capabilities is linked to energy production and use, but energy is traded on separate platforms and at different times. Is integration necessary and possible? 3. The EU Target Model aims to facilitate joint trading of energy with transmission use – what lessons can be drawn from the US experience? 4. What are the merits of European transmission owners only trading energy to ensure system security versus US Independent System operators facilitating short-term market clearing? 5. How can the operation of the power system and energy markets provide information to support investment choices in grid and generation
Probe interface design consideration
Interface design between a probe and a spacecraft requires not only technical considerations but also management planning and mission analysis interactions. Two further aspects of importance are the flyby versus the probe trade-off, and the relay link design and data handling optimization
