Ashley Purdy, who recently finished a master’s degree in biology at VCU and is now pursuing her Ph.D., is studying nerve cells in zebrafish in hopes of unlocking secrets about the human nervous system. The research could shed light on how neurodevelopmental disorders like multiple sclerosis or epilepsy occur

The Development of Accounting System and Accounting Education in High Income Oil Exporting Countries: an Overview

For a considerable length of time, the development in Third World countries (TWCs) identified by many wirters on the basis of viewing these countries as a single economic grup. As a result of the rapid economic changes taken place after the oil boom the development of accounting systems and accounting education in high income oil exporting countries (HIOECs) has been significantly different from that of other TWCs. Therefore, the unified view of Third World accounting is no longer appropriate and the economic differentiation needs to be taken into account in any realistic classification of accounting in this part of the word. Further, the ‘sphere of influence\u27 methodology used by Enthoven (1977) for classifying accounting system in the Third World is not applicable to HIOECs because, unlike in other TWCs, the development of accounting and education in this particular group of countries is not an outcome of such historical factor as colonial experience and/or colonial affinity

Development of Spatial-System Dynamics Model for Food Security Policy in Indonesia: a Generic Sub-Model Simulation

. The Indonesia has the immense geographic condition and heterogeneous condition, therefore food security issues could not be aggregated nationally, instead, they have to be described per region. In this paper, the region is defined as a province. Food security issues in every region are dynamic, and generated with complex system structure, will be described in the paper as follows. First, in order to have the comprehensive description of food security, we develop a new spatial system dynamics model that combines the concept of space and time. Previous spatial system dynamics methods could only describe the dynamics of the natural/physical system. The new spatial system dynamics proposed in this paper is designed to accommodate human decision for policy intervention. Then, we develop a decision support system, as follow. (1) After comparing characteristics of each province, we can identify the similarity of all province. We call the similarity as the generic model. (2). We propose a new method of spatial system dynamics that can accommodate the immense geographic condition and the heterogeneity. (3) By combining the generic model and the new method we propose a comprehensive model for decision support system in food security policy. Finally, from the experiments with a simulation of the comprehensive model, we could understand that a policy intervention of food security could give impact differently toward each region

Development of Online Learning System for Software Laboratory Center in Bina Nusantara University

The purpose of this research was to produce a learning management system that could provide teaching materials and assessment tools for studentsso that they could improve their abilities and assess themselves. Using the waterfall Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) model, the researchers divided the development into five phases. Those were analysis, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance. Analysis phase was done by conducting interviews and observations. The designing phase used Unified Modelling Language (UML), and implementation phase used PHP language with Model View Controller (MVC) framework CodeIgniter. Then, testing used eight golden rules and questionnaire as user acceptance test. In the end, this research could produce a Learning Management System (LMS) namely Online Learning System. It can deliver materials to students in BinaNusantara University. In addition, it helps students to find additional learning materials for the programming course, monitor, and assess their learning progress through the quiz and member dashboard

Development of ANFIS Control System for Seismic Response Reduction using Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm

Adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and Genetic algorithm (GA) was proposed in this study to reduce dynamic responses of a seismically excited building. A multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) was used to optimize the ANFIS+GA controller. Two MR dampers were used as multiple control devices and a scaled five-story building model was selected as an example structure. A fuzzy control algorithm was compared with the proposed ANFIS and ANFIS+GA controller. Adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and Ganetic algorithm with several outputs was proposed. In case study, after numerical simulation, it has been verified that the ANFIS control algorithm can present better control performance compared to the fuzzy control algorithm in reducing both displacement and acceleration responses

Development of Decision Support System Determining the Student as Scholarship Recipients by Fuzzy Multi Attribute Decision Making (Fmadm)

This research is the design of a decision support system (DSS) to determining the student as scholarship recipients of the STMIK Pelita Nusantara, Medan, Indonesia, with the approach of Fuzzy Multi Attribute Decision Making (FMADM) with TOPSIS method. Approach to Fuzzy Multiple Attribute Decision Making (FMADM) by specifying the values of the weights for each of the criteria or attributes and TOPSIS method for selecting student scholarship recipients. Implementation of a decision support system that can show the interaction of the user with the software application built using Visual Basic 2008 programming language. Conclusion the results obtained from the discussion shows that the approach with FMADM TOPSIS give final value calculation results ordered that can help decision makers determine the student deserves the scholarship. The existence of a decision support system that has been designed so the process of determining a student scholarship recipients more accurately, quickly, and accurately

Development of computerize value stream system

Value stream mapping (VSM) was initially developed to use of the suite of tools to help researcher or practitioner to identify waste in individual value streams and find an appropriate method to its removal. The process itself is simple and straightforward is used to identify waste using lean manufacturing technique, determined causes of the waste through the value stream mapping method and to propose solution to improve workplace environment. In this project is made an attempt to computerize the process though the application of VSM. Computerize value stream system is basically a method which is an internet networking system combining traditional concept of value stream mapping method to be used at manufacturing company to reduce wastes. This paper summarizes the way to develop an internet, online and network based of an efficient computerize value stream system to improve operation value of the manufacturing company. This paper reviews the design of package that will replace the manual method of doing VSM. This package will be applied in a real shop floor environment
