The Effectiveness of Explicit-Implicit Vocabulary Learning Using Subtitled-Video on Vocabulary Mastery of Students of MTs. Darul A\u27mal

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengamati efektifitas pembelajaran kosakata dengan pendekatan eksplisit-implisit menggunakan video yang diberikan subtitle L1 (Bahasa Indonesia) atau L2 (Bahasa Inggris) terhadap penguasaan 30 kosakata target. Desain penelitian ini adalah quasi-experimental dengan 2x2 desain faktorial. Tiga puluh (30) siswa di setiap kelas dimasukan kedalam salah satu dari empat perlakuan berikut; eksplisit-L1, explisit-L2, implisit-L1, dan implisit-L2. ANOVA dua jalur menunjukan adanya interaksi yang signifikan antara pembelajaran explisit-implisit dengan jenis subtitle yang digunakan dalam video terhadap hasil immediate post-test (p = 0.004 < α = 0.05). Pembelajaran kosakata dengan pendekatan explisit terbukti lebih unggul dibandingkan dengan pembelajaran implisit; dan video dengan subtitle berbahasa Indonesia (L1) terbukti lebih unggul dibanding video dengan subtitle berbahasa Inggris (L2). Hasil ini menunjukan bahwa video yang diberikan subtitle berbahasa Indonesia (L1) dapat menjadi sarana pembelajaran kosakata yang baik terutama ketika dibarengi dengan penggunaan pendekatan eksplisit.The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of explicit and implicit vocabulary learning using video with L1 or L2 subtitle to students\u27 vocabulary mastery of 30 target words. The design is quasi-experimental with 2x2 factorial designs. Thirty (30) students in each classroom were assigned to one of these four conditions; explicit-L1 subtitle, explicit-L2 subtitle; implicit-L1 subtitle, and implicit-L2 subtitle. Two-way factorial ANOVA reveals that there is a statistically significant interaction between explicit-implicit learning and types of subtitled video on the students\u27 immediate post-test results (p = 0.004 < α = 0.05). Explicit learning was proved to be superior to implicit learning, and L1 subtitle is superior to L2 subtitle in four learning conditions. This result suggests that L1 (Indonesian) subtitled-authentic-video has proved to be a valuable resource to learn new vocabularies in the classroom, especially when presented using explicit instructions

Social Security and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) Provisions in the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015

[Excerpt] Title VIII of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015 (H.R. 1314, P.L. 114-74) makes several changes to the Social Security programs. Among these changes is a temporary reallocation of the Social Security payroll taxes so that a larger share is deposited in the Disability Insurance (DI) trust fund to extend the life of this trust fund beyond its current predicted exhaustion in 2016. Under this provision, the allocation of the 12.40% Social Security payroll tax assigned to the DI trust fund increases from 1.80% to 2.37% and the allocation to the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance (OASI) trust fund decreases from 10.60% to 10.03%. These changes last through 2018. In addition, these provisions extend the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) demonstration authority for the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) programs, make changes to data and earnings reporting, and increase penalties for benefit fraud. Title VIII of the act includes the following subtitles: Subtitle A. Ensuring Correct Payments and Reducing Fraud Subtitle B. Promoting Opportunity for Disability Beneficiaries Subtitle C. AN ANALYSIS OF SUBTITLING STRATEGIES IN THE RAID 2: BERANDAL

Strategi pembuatan subtitle telah menjadi isu penting di ranah penerjemahan. Strategi pembuatan subtitle adalah strategi yang digunakan oleh para penerjemah dalam pembuatan subtitle pada film. Strategi pembuatan subtitle sangat penting untuk digunakan karena strategi ini tidak hanya membantu para penerjemah dalam proses menerjemahkan subtitle film tetapi juga dalam menghasilkan kualitas subtitle yang baik. Penelitian ini berjudul An Analysis of Subtitling Strategies in “The Raid 2: Berandal”. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis, mengidentifikasi, dan mengelaborasi strategi pembuatan subtitle yang digunakan oleh penerjemah pada film. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori strategi pembuatan subtitle yang diusulkan oleh Gottlieb (1994, seperti yang dikutip Eriksen, 2010) sebagai kerangka teori. Untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian, penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa transfer (48.22%) adalah strategi pembuatan subtitle yang paling sering digunakan di film ini, diikuti oleh paraphrase (41.33%). Sedangkan, strategi yang paling sedikit digunakan adalah resignation (0.44%) dan expansion (0.22%). Penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa satu strategi pembuatan subtitle, dislocation, tidak digunakan sama sekali di dalam film. Penerjemah cenderung untuk sering menggunakan transfer, mungkin, mengacu pada bentuk sintaksis yang mudah atau sederhana yang digunakan ujaran; oleh karena itu, tidak perlu adanya pengubahan konstruksi bentuk sintaksis. Experiential Meaning Breadth Variations of Interlingual Translation: the English-Bahasa Indonesia Subtitle of Avatar Movie

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mendeskripsikan kedalaman variasi makna eksperiensial yang terdapat dalam penerjemahan interlingual: subtitle film Avatar dari bahasa Inggris ke bahasa Indonesia, (2) mendeskripsikan faktor kontekstual yang menyebabkan terjadinya variasi dari kedua subtitle tersebut, dan (3) menginterpretasi efek kontekstual dari kedalaman variasi makna eksperiensial dari kedua subtitle tersebut. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data dalam penelitian adalah subtitle berbahasa Inggris dan terjemahannya dalam bahasa Indonesia yang diambil dari DVD film Avatar. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah semua klausa utama dalam subtitle. Variasi makna dianalisis dengan menggunakan sistem transitivitas. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa variasi secara umum antara teks bahasa sumber (Bahasa Inggris) dan teks bahasa sasaran (Bahasa Indonesia) sangat rendah dari segi keluasan makna eksperiensial. The Effect of English Subtitle in “Zootopia” Movie in Speaking Skill

This study investigated the effect of using English Subtitle in “Zootopia” Movie as media in speaking skill of SMPN 6 Sidoarjo. English Subtitle can describe as practice media to help the students when they understand to watch movie. The method used Quasi Experimental Design. The result of this study showed that the student could improve their ability in speaking skill through English subtitle. The data got from both pre-test and post-test score were analyzed using T-test formula. The result of calculation showed that in the significance degree of 5%, the value of t-test (to) is higher than t-table (tt) (19.90 > 1.99). According to the criteria of the test, the result showed that there is an effect of student's in speaking skill using English subtitle. It can be concluded that English Subtitle in “Zootopia” movie as media is effective and applicable approach at the ninth grade of SMPN 6 Sidoarjo to improve student in speaking skill

Subtitling Strategies Used In Movie Script of Finding Dory 2016

The aims of this research are to analyze the subtitling strategies of Finding Dory 2016 movie subtitle and to describe the readability of subtitling in Finding Dory 2016 movie.This research is descriptive qualitative research. The object of the study is the movie entitled Finding Dory 2016 and its subtitling. The writer collects the data of subtitling strategy from English and Indonesian subtitle. The writers uses some steps to analyze the data, the first is comparing the English subtitle and Indonesian subtitle, after that classifying the strategy, describes the readability and the last giving conclusion. The writers also interviews the three raters to get the information related to the subtitle. The writer also compares the method from the both subtitle to analyze the data.The results of this study show that there are seven strategies used in Finding Dory 2016 movie. They are transfer, deletion, paraphrase, decimation, condensation, imitation, and transcription. The details percentages are transfer (323 or 49%), deletion (79 or 12%), paraphrase (35 or 5,3%), imitation (63 or 9,6%), transcription (1 or 0,1%), condensation (62 or 9,4%), and decimation (95 or 14,4%). Besides, the writer describes the readability of subtitling Finding Dory 2016 movie. Viewed from the 658 data, there are 646 data or 98,2% classified in high readability and 12 data or 1,8% belongs to the medium readabilit
