National staff development model for LSC staff, IAG staff and partnership staff: research report, quality development
This report outlines the findings and recommendations resulting from a national Quality Development Fund (QDF) project commissioned by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) in July 2002. The aim of the project was to produce a development and training programme aimed at information advice and guidance (IAG) staff. Outputs from the project include a staff development framework on compact disk (CD), detailing the skills and knowledge required in various work areas within the IAG initiative and correlating these with specific training and development opportunities. This report also lists eight recommendations for further improvement put forward by the project team.
This report is of interest to IAG managers and coordinators in local Learning and Skills Councils (local LSCs), IAG partnerships and other IAG organisations. The absence of a prescribed IAG staff development and competence model has meant that local partnerships have been empowered to come up with their own definitions of ‘competence’ and ‘experience’ locally. This flexibility has been enhanced by the promulgation of the matrix standard and its predecessor which state that ‘staff competence and the support they are given are sufficient to deliver the service’ but intentionally does not define what competencies are required to deliver IAG.

Academic staff development in the area of technology enhanced learning in the UK HEIs
This paper reports on a study on staff development in the area of technology enhanced learning in UK Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) that took place in November 2011. Data for this study were gathered via an online survey emailed to the Heads of e-Learning Forum (HeLF) which is a network comprised of one senior member of staff per UK institution leading the enhancement of learning and teaching through the use of technology. Prior to the survey, desk-based research on some universities’ publicly available websites gathered similar information about staff development in the area of technology enhanced learning. The online survey received 27 responses, approaching a quarter of all UK HEIs subscribed to the Heads of e-Learning forum list (118 is the total number). Both pre-1992 (16 in number) and post-1992 Universities (11 in number) were represented in the survey and findings indicate the way this sample UK HEIs are approaching staff development in the area of TEL. The survey’s main research question was ‘what provision do UK HEIs make for academic staff development in the area of technology enhanced learning’. Twelve questions, both closed and open-ended, were devised in order to gather enough information about how staff development needs in the area of technology enhanced learning are addressed by different UK institutions. Perceptions of IUPUI Faculty and Staff Regarding the Center for Service and Learning Faculty/Staff Development Programs
The purpose of this evaluation was to understand perceptions of IUPUI faculty and staff regarding the influence of the Center for Service and Learning’s (CSL) programs and resources on respondents. Specifically, the evaluation was intended to deepen CSL’s understanding of respondents’ experiences as community-engaged professionals at IUPUI. Additionally, the evaluation sought to gather input on new ideas to strengthen CSL services and programming going forward. IUPUI faculty and staff who have participated in CSL workshops, trainings, and/or requested information from CSL were emailed during the fall of 2018 and asked to participate in the Qualtrics survey. The survey was anonymous. This report shares overall findings from the survey and provides general recommendations
Staff Engagement for Cohesion
This chapter in a book on small and rural libraries looks at issues around why staff engagement is a concern. We discuss the barriers to staff engagement and the role professional development plays in lowering the barriers. We look at events programming and the library's impact on other campus departments. Staff Development Policy
It is argued here that staff development in the public elementary and secondary schools of the United States is misguided in both policy and practice. In its current form it represents an imperfect consumer market in which "proof of purchase" substitutes for investment in either school improvement or individual development. A policy model based on investment in school improvement is shown, in which different assumptions about how to improve schools are linked to different alternatives for the design and implementation of staff development. These are argued to be based on an investment rather than consumption model
