    A passivity-based stability criterion for a class of interconnected systems and applications to biochemical reaction networks

    This paper presents a stability test for a class of interconnected nonlinear systems motivated by biochemical reaction networks. One of the main results determines global asymptotic stability of the network from the diagonal stability of a "dissipativity matrix" which incorporates information about the passivity properties of the subsystems, the interconnection structure of the network, and the signs of the interconnection terms. This stability test encompasses the "secant criterion" for cyclic networks presented in our previous paper, and extends it to a general interconnection structure represented by a graph. A second main result allows one to accommodate state products. This extension makes the new stability criterion applicable to a broader class of models, even in the case of cyclic systems. The new stability test is illustrated on a mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascade model, and on a branched interconnection structure motivated by metabolic networks.     A Parameterized Macromodeling Strategy with Uniform Stability Test

    This paper presents a strategy for the construction of parameterized linear macromodels from tabulated port responses. These macromodels are able to reproduce the input-output behavior of the structure of interest both in terms of frequency and one or more design variables such as geometry and material parameters. A highly efficient combination of rational identification and piecewise linear interpolation leads to a macromodel form which can be cast as a polytopic descriptor form. This in turns enables the construction of a numerically robust testing procedure, based on linear matrix inequalities, for the assessment of uniform model stability within any prescribed region of the parameters space. Several numerical examples are used to illustrate the theory on practical application cases

    Long-term stability test of a triple GEM detector

    The main aim of the study is to perform the long-term stability test of gain of the single mask triple GEM detector. A simple method is used for this long- term stability test using a radioactive X-ray source with high activity. The test is continued till accumulation of charge per unit area > 12.0 mC/mm2.     The Effectiveness of Intravenous Admixture Training in a Private Hospital in Surabaya

    In this hospital, the nurses face intravenous (iv) admixture problems in preparing and delivering iv injection and/or infusion to patients due to their limited background knowledge of drug stability and incompatibility. The nurses lack comprehension in maintaining the physical and chemical stability of the drugs. When stability is disrupted, incompatibility may occur. The incompatibility will diminish the effectiveness and the safety of drugs. Six small classes are conducted at the hospital, with 184 total attendants. There are three sessions: i. drug stability, ii. iv injection or infusion delivery, iii. case study (preparing and delivering several iv injections and/or infusions). The effectiveness of iv admixture training was evaluated through questionnaires and formative test (pre-test and post-test sessions). A process evaluation is based on both a 5-point Likert scale questionnaires and pencil and paper test distributed for each session. The nurses awareness of iv drug incompability, as an impact of the training, is showed through a percentage of pharmaceutical queries before and after training

    Investigation of aeroelastic stability phenomena of a helicopter by in-flight shake test

    The analytical capability of the helicopter stability program is discussed. The parameters which are found to be critical to the air resonance characteristics of the soft in-plane hingeless rotor systems are detailed. A summary of two model test programs, a 1/13.8 Froude-scaled BO-105 model and a 1.67 meter (5.5 foot) diameter Froude-scaled YUH-61A model, are presented with emphasis on the selection of the final parameters which were incorporated in the full scale YUH-61A helicopter. Model test data for this configuration are shown. The actual test results of the YUH-61A air resonance in-flight shake test stability are presented. Included are a concise description of the test setup, which employs the Grumman Automated Telemetry System (ATS), the test technique for recording in-flight stability, and the test procedure used to demonstrate favorable stability characteristics with no in-plane damping augmentation (lag damper removed). The data illustrating the stability trend of air resonance with forward speed and the stability trend of ground resonance for percent airborne are presented

    A comparative linear mean-square stability analysis of Maruyama- and Milstein-type methods

    In this article we compare the mean-square stability properties of the Theta-Maruyama and Theta-Milstein method that are used to solve stochastic differential equations. For the linear stability analysis, we propose an extension of the standard geometric Brownian motion as a test equation and consider a scalar linear test equation with several multiplicative noise terms. This test equation allows to begin investigating the influence of multi-dimensional noise on the stability behaviour of the methods while the analysis is still tractable. Our findings include: (i) the stability condition for the Theta-Milstein method and thus, for some choices of Theta, the conditions on the step-size, are much more restrictive than those for the Theta-Maruyama method; (ii) the precise stability region of the Theta-Milstein method explicitly depends on the noise terms. Further, we investigate the effect of introducing partially implicitness in the diffusion approximation terms of Milstein-type methods, thus obtaining the possibility to control the stability properties of these methods with a further method parameter Sigma. Numerical examples illustrate the results and provide a comparison of the stability behaviour of the different methods.Comment: 19 pages, 10 figure
