    Carrier extraction circuit

    Get PDF
Feedback loop extracts demodulated reference signals from IF input and feeds signal back to demodulator. Since reference signal is extracted directly from carrier, no separate reference need be transmitted. Circuit obtains coherent carrier from balanced or unbalanced four-phase signal of varying characteristics

    Four-phase differential phase shift resolver

    Get PDF
Two systems have been developed to resolve phase uncertainty without transmitting reference signals. In both methods signal is impressed on carrier as differential, rather than absolute, phase shift. At the receiver four-phase demodulation and logic process unambiguously resolves differential phase shift of input carrier

Discriminator aided phase lock acquisition for suppressed carrier signals

    Get PDF
A discriminator aided technique for acquisition of phase lock to a suppressed carrier signal utilizes a Costas loop which is initially operated open loop and control voltage for its VCXO is derived from a phase detector that compares the VCXO to a reference frequency thus establishing coarse frequency resolution with the received signal. Then the Costas loop is closed with the low-pass filter of the channel having a bandwidth much greater (by a factor of about 10) than in the I channel so that a frequency discriminator effect results to aid carrier resolution. Finally, after carrier acquisition, the Q-channel filter of the Costas loop is switched to a bandwidth substantially equal to that of the I-channel for carrier tracking

Phase Stabilization of a Frequency Comb using Multipulse Quantum Interferometry

    Get PDF
From the interaction between a frequency comb and an atomic qubit, we derive quantum protocols for the determination of the carrier-envelope offset phase, using the qubit coherence as a reference, and without the need of frequency doubling or an octave spanning comb. Compared with a trivial interference protocol, the multipulse protocol results in a polynomial enhancement of the sensitivity O(N^{-2}) with the number N of laser pulses involved. We present specializations of the protocols using optical or hyperfine qubits, Lambda-schemes and Raman transitions, and introduce methods where the reference is another phase-stable cw-laser or frequency comb

    Automatic carrier acquisition system

    Get PDF
An automatic carrier acquisition system for a phase locked loop (PLL) receiver is disclosed. It includes a local oscillator, which sweeps the receiver to tune across the carrier frequency uncertainty range until the carrier crosses the receiver IF reference. Such crossing is detected by an automatic acquisition detector. It receives the IF signal from the receiver as well as the IF reference. It includes a pair of multipliers which multiply the IF signal with the IF reference in phase and in quadrature. The outputs of the multipliers are filtered through bandpass filters and power detected. The output of the power detector has a signal dc component which is optimized with respect to the noise dc level by the selection of the time constants of the filters as a function of the sweep rate of the local oscillator

A data-driven user steering algorithm for optimizing user experience in multi-tier LTE networks

    Get PDF
Multi-tier cellular networks are a cost-effective solution for capacity enhancement in urban scenarios. In these networks, effective handover schemes are required to assign users to the most adequate layer. In this paper, a data-driven self-tuning algorithm for user steering is proposed to improve the overall Quality of Experience (QoE) in multi-carrier Long Term Evolution (TE) networks. Unlike classical approaches, user steering is achieved by changing Reference Signal Received Quality (RSRQ) based inter-frequency handover margins. To drive the tuning process, a novel indicator showing throughput changes in the vicinity of handovers is derived from connection traces. Method assessment is carried out in a dynamic system-level LTE simulator implementing a real multi-carrier scenario. Results show that the proposed algorithm significantly improves QoE figures obtained with a classical inter-frequency handover scheme based on Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) measurements.Universidad de Málaga.
