Provider Education & Requirements for Opioid Prescriptions

    Get PDF
Nationally, there has been a surge in the opioid prescription crisis with associated overdose deaths. Vermont is no exception, with increasing opioid overdose related deaths within the last 10 years. A sample (n=111) of opioid addiction patients at the Community Health Centers of Burlington (CHCB) have demonstrated that 25% have their initial use due to provider prescription. New Vermont regulations to decrease opioid prescriptions are inefficient. The goal of this project is to implement a streamlined intervention to improve provider education and comfort regarding new Vermont state opioid prescribing regulations.https://scholarworks.uvm.edu/fmclerk/1326/thumbnail.jp

An Interactive Curricula Experience (iCE) for Latino Immigrant Health

    Get PDF
The Interactive Curricula Experience (iCE) is an educational platform intended for interactive education utilizing multiple forms of media. It is being utilized at Thomas Jefferson University (TJU) in various classes, among them Global Health. One of the pertinent global-health-at-home topics at TJU relates to Latino immigrant health. Latino immigrants number more than 20,000 in Philadelphia. They are located throughout the city, although the highest concentrations are in North and South Philadelphia. With respect to health care, Latino immigrants are less likely to have a regular health care provider than non-immigrant Latinos. Education to provide culturally sensitive care to Latino immigrants is vital to establish longer-lasting patient-doctor partnerships and decrease the number of Latino immigrants without a regular health care provider. iCE is an attempt to provide that education by stepping out of the lecture hall and assigned readings, and instead allowing students to engage with the material at their own pace.https://jdc.jefferson.edu/cwicposters/1021/thumbnail.jp

To Segregate or to Integrate: Education Politics and Democracy

The governments of nearly all countries are major providers of primary and secondary education to its citizens. In some countries, however, public schools coexist with private schools, while in others the government is the sole provider of education. In this study,we askwhy different societiesmake different choices regarding the mix of private and public schooling. We develop a theory which integrates private education and fertility decisionswith voting on public schooling expenditures. In a given political environment, high income inequality leads to more private education, as rich people opt out of the public system. Comparing across political systems, we find that concentration of political power can lead to multiple equilibria in the determination of public education spending.
