A Survey of Physical Layer Security Techniques for 5G Wireless Networks and Challenges Ahead
Physical layer security which safeguards data confidentiality based on the
information-theoretic approaches has received significant research interest
recently. The key idea behind physical layer security is to utilize the
intrinsic randomness of the transmission channel to guarantee the security in
physical layer. The evolution towards 5G wireless communications poses new
challenges for physical layer security research. This paper provides a latest
survey of the physical layer security research on various promising 5G
technologies, including physical layer security coding, massive multiple-input
multiple-output, millimeter wave communications, heterogeneous networks,
non-orthogonal multiple access, full duplex technology, etc. Technical
challenges which remain unresolved at the time of writing are summarized and

Techniques for Enhanced Physical-Layer Security
Information-theoretic security--widely accepted as the strictest notion of
security--relies on channel coding techniques that exploit the inherent
randomness of propagation channels to strengthen the security of communications
systems. Within this paradigm, we explore strategies to improve secure
connectivity in a wireless network. We first consider the intrinsically secure
communications graph (iS-graph), a convenient representation of the links that
can be established with information-theoretic security on a large-scale
network. We then propose and characterize two techniques--sectorized
transmission and eavesdropper neutralization--which are shown to dramatically

Laptop theft: a case study on effectiveness of security mechanisms in open organizations
Organizations rely on physical, technical and procedural mechanisms to protect their physical assets. Of all physical assets, laptops are the probably the most troublesome to protect, since laptops are easy to remove and conceal. Organizations open to the public, such as hospitals and universities, are easy targets for laptop thieves, since every day hundreds of people not employed by the organization wander in the premises. The problem security professionals face is how to protect the laptops in such open organizations. \ud

In this study, we look at the eectiveness of the security mechanisms against laptop theft in two universities. We analyze the logs from laptop thefts in both universities and complement the results with penetration tests. The results from the study show that surveillance cameras and access control have a limited role in the security of the organization and that the level of security awareness of the employees plays the biggest role in stopping theft. The results of this study are intended to aid security professionals in the prioritization of security mechanisms
Game Based Learning for Safety and Security Education
Safety and security education are important part of technology related education, because of recent number of increase in safety and security related incidents. Game based learning is an emerging and rapidly advancing forms of computer-assisted instruction. Game based learning for safety and security education enables students to learn concepts and skills without the risk of physical injury and security breach. In this paper, a pedestal grinder safety game and physical security game have been developed using industrial standard modeling and game development software. The average score of the knowledge test of grinder safety game was 82%, which is higher than traditional lecture only instruction method. In addition, the survey of physical security game shows 84% average satisfaction ratio from high school students who played the game during the summer camp. The results of these studies indicated that game based learning method can enhance students' learning without potential harm to the students
