The Multi-Sensory Landscape as an Inspiration in the Creation of a Tourism Product

    Get PDF
Stimulated by growing competition in the tourism market, the offer available needs to be continuously enhanced, and as a result those doing the development reach out for increasingly sophisticated measures. An important element in this context is the popular multi-sensory perception of landscape which guarantees that the tourism product created will be interesting and unique. This helps to provide more interesting experiences and achieve greater involvement, which undoubtedly allows greater satisfaction to be drawn from participation in tourism activities. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate that the multi-sensory approach to landscape may be applied in the creation process of the tourism product, and this proposition will be supported with examples corresponding to particular landscape stimuli. The author intends to show that contemporary tourism offers benefit from the phenomenon of the multi-sensory landscape more and more frequently

This paper is an overview, and its aim is to identify published research works on tourism in Łódź and around the city as well as the tourism trips of the city’s inhabitants. This target allowed around 100 articles to be gathered which have been divided into eight thematic groups and analysed for merit. Their names are the titles of subchapters: the city’s tourism resources, land use planning, tourism space, the tourism activity of the citizens of Łódź, the tourism product – tourism development strategies, and tourism research of surrounding areas in the metropolitan area of Łódź. In the final part, the author divides the research into stages leading up to an explanation of the current development of research on Łódź and its metropolitan area and then suggests further research directions

The Origin And Development Of Social Geography In Poland, With Special Emphasis On The Centre Of Geographical Studies In Łódź

Published in: Society and Space in Contemporary Poland in Łódź University Geographical Research, edited by T.MarszałThe formation of social geography in Poland should be considered with reference to internal and external determinants of its development. Contemporary research problems, the treatment of research methodologies and theoretical concepts are undoubtedly closely related to the models stemming from the Anglo-Saxon geography. However, it is worth noting that while social geography abroad is part of extensive ideological and evaluative discussions, Polish social geography represents the behavioural trend under string influence of neo-scientistic methodology, which is caused by both the cognitive conservatism of the researchers and the prevailing social structure of Polish scientific community. The existing consensus based on models accepted in early 1980s and motivated by concession (selective) access to information is still hard to overcome. The dominance of quantitative methods and the lack of a broader theoretical (philosophical) reflection maintain mental clichés cause the research problems of social geography, both in theoretical sense and in the number of active researchers, to be taken over by other branches of science that are stronger in terms of theory, such as sociology, social anthropology or economics. The current reorientation of socio-economic geography towards spatial economy and management is, in our opinion, a kind of return to the known cognitive and methodological contents characteristic to the old economic geography in a new packaging and using modern research technologies (computers). The simultaneous lack of willingness to perform in-depth theoretical reflections (also characteristic of the entire Polish socio-economic geography) and the failure of social geographers to undertake major research challenges could lead to a crisis of this discipline in the institutional structure, followed by the regression in research, both in Poland and Łódź. We should hope that over the years, when the political, social and economic transformation is at last completed in Poland, full openness to ideas and free exchange of thoughts between geographers with various views will finally emerge. It seems that it could become an impulse to undertake new theoretical and methodological challenges and to solve the growing socio-spatial problems in the country

The aim of the paper is to demonstrate the commonalities between the movies and paintings by Wilhelm Sasnal, one of the greatest painters of the young generation in Poland. The analysis uses terms coined by Gilles Deleuze in his book Cinema. 1. Picture-movement. 2. Picture-time. Deleuze perceived cinema as a method of exploring the world and as the only possibility to communicate with it. This allowed him to build categories such as picture-movement, picture-perception, picture-action, picture-emotion, all of which can be found in Wilhelm Sasnal's movies. The second part of the paper analyses human consciousness. Understanding the nature of time and duration allows to explore Deleuze's philosophy and the way he interpreted movies. Problem of understanding the universe and the human being in the context of Deleuze's philosophy contributes to the interpretation of Wilhelm Sasnal's art

The claim currently known as “disjunctivism” is usually interpreted in terms of exclusive disjunction. However, it can be also explicated through the lens of alternative denial. The aim of this paper is to show that the latter interpretation is more accurate. Firstly, it reflects the core of disjunctivism more precisely. Secondly, it reduces metaphysical weight of the claim, thereby making it more plausible

Artykuł jest próbą określenia turystycznych preferencji przestrzennych studentów 1 i 5 roku geografii z 9 ośrodków akademickich w Polsce. Przedstawiono w nim modele turystycznych preferencji grup studentów zróżnicowanych wiedzą (rokiem studiów) i odległością, aby poznać rolę tych czynników w kształtowaniu wyobrażeń o przestrzeni oraz ukazano „subiektywną”, wyrażoną przez studentów strukturę atrybutów przestrzeni turystycznej (przestrzeni miasta i regionu)
