Market Mill Dependence Pattern in the Stock Market: Multiscale Conditional Dynamics

Market Mill is a complex dependence pattern leading to nonlinear correlations and predictability in intraday dynamics of stock prices. The present paper puts together previous efforts to build a dynamical model reflecting the market mill asymmetries. We show that certain properties of the conditional dynamics at a single time scale such as a characteristic shape of an asymmetry generating component of the conditional probability distribution result in the "elementary" market mill pattern. This asymmetry generating component matches the empirical distribution obtained from the market data. We discuss these properties as a mixture of trend-preserving and contrarian strategies used by market agents. Three basic types of asymmetry patterns characterizing individual stocks are outlined. Multiple time scale considerations make the resulting "composite" mill similar to the empirical market mill patterns. Multiscale model also reflects a multi-agent nature of the market.Comment: Typo's correcte

Interpretation of F106B and CV580 in-flight lightning data and form factor determination

    Get PDF
Two topics of in-flight aircraft/lightning interaction are addressed. The first is the analysis of measured data from the NASA F106B Thunderstorm Research Aircraft and the CV580 research program run by the FAA and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The CV580 data was investigated in a mostly qualitative sense, while the F106B data was subjected to both statistical and quantitative analysis using linear triggered lightning finite difference models. The second main topic is the analysis of field mill data and the calibration of the field mill systems. The calibration of the F106B field mill system was investigated using an improved finite difference model of the aircraft having a spatial resolution of one-quarter meter. The calibration was applied to measured field mill data acquired during the 1985 thunderstorm season. The experimental determination of form factors useful for field mill calibration was also investigated both experimentally and analytically. The experimental effort involved the use of conducting scale models and an electrolytic tank. An analytic technique was developed to aid in the understanding of the experimental results

Extracting physical observables using macroscopic ensemble in the spex-mixer/mill simulation

A technique to simulate the spex-mixer/mill system as a macroscopic ensemble rather than a pure dynamical system is proposed. The treatment is suitable especially for comminution processes generating the nanomaterial up to nanometers scale where the geometrical displacements are unobservable. It is argued that the method is simple and experimentally verifiable since relevant physical observables can be extracted using partition function without solving the equation of motions.Comment: 6 page

Perception of Farmers Towards Small Scale Feed Mill in Terms of Socio-economic Factors in Sindenreng Rappang Regency

The aim of the study was to analyze farmers' perception towards small scale feed mill in terms of socio-economic factors. The study was conducted with purposive sampling. Data were analyzed descriptively and likert scale analysis. The results showed that the perception of farmer laying on the socio-economic factors of the small scale feed mill is quite good and positive to support the sustainability of small and medium scale enterpris

Chemical and spectroscopic analysis of olive mill waste water during a biological treatment

    Get PDF
The treatment of olive mill waste water was studied on the laboratory scale. Physico–chemical analyses showed the final products had a mean pH of 5.4 without neutralisation and 5.7 when lime was added to the process. Raising the pH by adding lime had a positive outcome on the degradation of phenols, whose levels were reduced by over 76%. The lime also changed the structure of the organic matter, as seen in the infra-red spectra. Combining the FT-IR and 13C NMR data showed that with addition of lime, the density of aliphatic groups decreased to the benefit of aromatic groups, indicating that polymerisation of the organic matter occurred during the bioprocess. Under our experimental conditions, the biotransformation of olive mill waste water appears to favour the stabilisation of the organic matter through mechanisms analogous to those that lead to the formation of humus in the soil

Recycling of mill scale in sintering process

This investigation deals with the effect of replacing some amount of Baharia high barite iron ore concentrate by mill scale waste which was characterized by high iron oxide content on the parameters of the sintering process., and investigation the effect of different amount of coke breeze added on sintering process parameters when using 5% mill scale waste with 95% iron ore concentrate. The results of this work show that, replacement of iron ore concentrate with mill scale increases the amount of ready made sinter, sinter strength and productivity of the sinter machine and productivity at blast furnace yard. Also, the increase of coke breeze leads to an increase the ready made sinter and productivity of the sintering machine at blast furnace yard. The productivity of the sintering machine after 5% decreased slightly due to the decrease of vertical velocity

Characteristic spatial scale of vesicle pair interactions in a plane linear flow

We report the experimental studies on interaction of two vesicles trapped in a microfluidic analog of four-roll mill, where a plane linear flow is realized. We found that the dynamics of a single vesicle is significantly altered by the presence of another vesicle at separation distances up to about 3.2 \div 3.7 times of effective radius of the vesicles. This is supported by direct measurements of a single vesicle back-reaction on the velocity field. Thus, the experiment provides the lower bound for the interaction scale of vesicles and so the corresponding upper bound for the volume fraction \phi=0.08 \div 0.13 of non-interacting vesicle suspensions.Comment: 5 pages, 8 figures, PRE accepted for publicatio

Small scale production and storage quality of dry-milled degermed maize products for tropical countries

The present study aims to propose a comprehensive appropriate technological package for small-scale processing of maize flour, which meets consumer demand for quality and achieves extended shelf life. One traditional soft cultivar was processed by the conventional method (direct grinding with disc mill) and was compared with flours obtained under various degerming and grinding intensities; two types of grinder (disc mill and hammer mill, already present on the market) were tested in parallel. Consumer satisfaction scores were registered for the different products after increasing storage duration (0 to 6 months). It was shown that combining degerming and hammer milling produce high quality flour from hard grains, which can be stored up to 6 months without significant deterioration. In parallel, physicochemical and rheological characterizations showed that the main reaction occurring during storage is lipid degradation, which slightly increased fat acidity, hence decreasing taste and elasticity acceptability of the paste. Kaolin protects olive fruits from Bactrocera oleae (Gmelin) infestations unaffecting olive oil quality

    Get PDF
The efficacy of the processed kaolin “Surround WP” to control olive fruit fly, Bactrocera oleae Gmelin, field infestations was investigated in east Calabria. The preliminary results showed that fruit infestation levels were significantly reduced on kaolin-treated trees compared with untreated trees. The promising results of these experiments points to the feasibility of using particle film technology composed of a non-toxic material, to avoid olive fly damage as an alternative to the applications of rotenone in organic orchards. Finally, kaolin treatment unaffected the nutritional and sensory quality parameters of the corresponding virgin olive oils obtained by a laboratory scale olive mill, thus satisfying the present quality requirements
