Direct Mailing Decisions for a Dutch Fundraiser
Direct marketing firms want to transfer their message as efficientlyas possible in order to obtain a profitable long-term relationshipwith individual customers. Much attention has been paid to addressselection of existing customers and on identifying new profitableprospects. Less attention has been paid to the optimal frequency ofthe contacts with customers. We provide a decision support system thathelps the direct mailer to determine mailing frequency for activecustomers. The system observes the mailing pattern of these customersin terms of the well known R(ecency), F(requency) and M(onetary)variables. The underlying model is based on an optimization model forthe frequency of direct mailings. The system provides the directmailer with tools to define preferred response behavior and advisesthe direct mailer on the mailing strategy that will steer thecustomers towards this preferred response behavior.decision support system;direct marketing;Markov decision process
Eight-channel telephone telemetry system
Portable telemetry system uses conventional telephone link which eliminates mailing or messenger service between physician and analyst. Transmitter is used by physician; receiver is used by analyst. Each unit is inductively coupled to its respective telephone set, transmitter converting EEG into audio frequency and receiver converting this frequency back to EEG
Poster: Communication in Open-Source Projects--End of the E-mail Era?
Communication is essential in software engineering. Especially in distributed
open-source teams, communication needs to be supported by channels including
mailing lists, forums, issue trackers, and chat systems. Yet, we do not have a
clear understanding of which communication channels stakeholders in open-source
projects use. In this study, we fill the knowledge gap by investigating a
statistically representative sample of 400 GitHub projects. We discover the
used communication channels by regular expressions on project data. We show
that (1) half of the GitHub projects use observable communication channels; (2)
GitHub Issues, e-mail addresses, and the modern chat system Gitter are the most
common channels; (3) mailing lists are only in place five and have a lower
market share than all modern chat systems combined.Comment: 2 pages. To appear as a poster in 40th International Conference on

The WebStand Project
In this paper we present the state of advancement of the French ANR WebStand
project. The objective of this project is to construct a customizable XML based
warehouse platform to acquire, transform, analyze, store, query and export data
from the web, in particular mailing lists, with the final intension of using
this data to perform sociological studies focused on social groups of World
Wide Web, with a specific emphasis on the temporal aspects of this data. We are
currently using this system to analyze the standardization process of the W3C,
through its social network of standard setters
Performance of the Member of Orchid Consortium Mailing List
Issues such as collective natural resource management, chain management and multi-functional agriculture requires new forms of coordinated action and cooperation between farmers and other stakeholders. Orchid consortium is a new cooperation system developed as an attempt to synergize various drive components in the orchid floriculture development in Indonesia. The mailing list as one of the collaborative information and communication systems is built to share information among members of the orchid consortium. The research objectives are: (1) To identify communication interaction process of the current performance of the orchid consortium. (2) To identify in which stage of the current performance of the orchid consortium. The unit of analysis is messages in the consortium mailing list. This research resulted several outputs i.e: (1) Technical and organizational themes are the most widely discussed in the mailing list of orchid consortium, (2) Group members were still in the stage of knowing each other and exp lain ideas or still in the orientation phase
Combining fields in known-item email search
Emails are examples of structured documents with various fields. These fields can be exploited to enhance the retrieval effectiveness of an Information Retrieval (IR) system that mailing list archives. In recent experiments of the TREC2005 Enterprise track, various fields were applied to varying degrees of success by the participants. In his work, using a field-based weighting model, we investigate the retrieval performance attainable by each field, and examine when fields evidence should be combined or not

The Testbed for LISA Analysis Project
The Testbed for LISA Analysis (TLA) Project aims to facilitate the
development, validation and comparison of different methods for LISA science
data analysis, by the broad LISA Science Community, to meet the special
challenges that LISA poses. It includes a well-defined Simulated LISA Data
Product (SLDP), which provides a clean interface between the communities that
have developed to model and to analyze the LISA science data stream; a
web-based clearinghouse (at ) providing SLDP
software libraries, relevant software, papers and other documentation, and a
repository for SLDP data sets; a set of mailing lists for communication between
and among LISA simulators and LISA science analysts; a problem tracking system
for SLDP support; and a program of workshops to allow the burgeoning LISA
science community to further refine the SLDP definition, define specific LISA
science analysis challenges, and report their results. This note describes the
TLA Project, the resources it provides immediately, its future plans, and
invites the participation of the broader community in the furtherance of its
goals.Comment: 5 pages, no figure
Overview and Features of Generic Security Protocols for Cloud Computing Environment
- In this research paper we are describing the several generic protocols use in Cloud computing environment. Now-a-days Cloud Computing has become very important in large and small enterprise so security has also become very important for Cloud Computing. Several technique use to protect the cloud. Techniques are implemented by protocols. This paper is based on overview of protocols that use in Cloud computing environment. The protocols of cloud computing can also use in different security system such as Cryptonet System, Mailing System and Authentication System
