Loop-Erasure of Plane Brownian Motion
We use the coupling technique to prove that there exists a loop-erasure of a
plane Brownian motion stopped on exiting a simply connected domain, and the
loop-erased curve is the reversal of a radial SLE curve.Comment: 10 page
Two-loop renormalization of the Finkel'stein theory: The specific heat
We explore the two-loop renormalization of the specific heat for an
interacting disordered electron system in the case of broken time reversal
symmetry. Within the nonlinear sigma model approach we derive the two-loop
result for the anomalous dimension which controls scaling of the specific heat
with temperature. As an example, we elaborate the metal-insulator transition in
dimensions for the case of broken time reversal and spin
rotational symmetries and in the presence of Coulomb interaction. In this
situation scaling of the specific heat is determined by the anomalous dimension
of the Finkel'stein operator which is the eigen operator of the renormalization
group complementary to the eigen operator corresponding to the second moment of
the local density of states. We find that the absolute values of the anomalous
dimensions of these operators differ beyond one-loop approximation contrary to
the noninteracting case.Comment: 18 pages, elsarticle styl
Thermally activated reversal in exchange-coupled structures
In this paper, we study the thermally activated reversal of IrMn/CoFe exchange-coupled structures using Lorentz microscopy and magnetometry. An asymmetry and a training effect were found on the hysteresis loops both with and without holding the film at negative saturation of the ferromagnetic layer. Holding the film at negative saturation results in the hysteresis loop shifting toward zero field. We believe that, in this system, two energy barrier distributions with different time constants coexist. The large-time-constant thermally activated reversal of the antiferromagnetic layer contributes to a increasing shift of the entire hysteresis loop toward zero field with increased period of time spent at negative saturation of the ferromagnetic layer. The small-time-constant thermal activation contributes to asymmetry in the magnetization reversal and training effects
Frustration Driven Stripe Domain Formation in Co/Pt Multilayer Films
We report microscopic mechanisms for an unusual magnetization reversal
behavior in Co/Pt multilayers where some of the first-order reversal curves
protrude outside of the major loop. Transmission x-ray microscopy reveals a
fragmented stripe domain topography when the magnetic field is reversed prior
to saturation, in contrast to an interconnected pattern when reversing from a
saturated state. The different domain nucleation and propagation behaviors are
due to unannihilated domains from the prior field sweep. These residual domains
contribute to random dipole fields that impede the subsequent domain growth and
prevent domains from growing as closely together as for the interconnected
pattern.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figures, to appear in AP
