Bulgarian Folk Songs in a Digital Library
The paper presents the main results of an ongoing project aimed at the development of technologies for digitization of Bulgarian folk music and building a heterogeneous digital library with Bulgarian folk songs presented with their music, notes and text. An initial digitization and preservation of the Bulgarian cultural heritage starts by means of digitization and insertion into the library of over 1000 songs that were recorded and written down during the 60s and 70s of XX century. Also we present a full text search engine in a collection of lyrics (text of songs) and coded notes (symbolic melody). Some perspectives for future projects are also discussed
Open Content Alliance Update
As part of the Boston Library Consortium, in the fall of 2007 the University of New Hampshire Library began participating in the Open Content Alliance (OCA), a mass digitization project intended to make scanned library materials freely accessible to the world. In this session, hear about the ambitious goals of the OCA project and one library’s experience with the massive collaborative effort required to make it successful.
The presentation was delivered at the New Hampshire Library Association Spring Conference, Innovate in ‘08: Library Basics and Beyond, May 22, 2008

Shared Collection Development, Digitization, and Owned Digital Collections
While library models already exist for sharing physical materials and joint licensing, this paper envisions an aspect of future collections involving a national digital collection owned, not licensed, by libraries. Collaborative collection development, digitization, and digital object management of owned collections can benefit societies in multiple ways, from expanding access to users otherwise unable to reach these materials, to preserving content even when disaster strikes, to reducing duplication of effort and expense in collection or digitization. This article will explore both the benefits of and the challenges to this type of collaboration
What is worth of digitizing: the selection criteria
Digitization over the years became integral part of library management and many library projects are oriented toward digitizing library material, for preservation purposes as well as accessibility of library materials. The key factor in such projects is good organization based on clearly defined goals and selection criteria. The purpose of this paper is to examine selection criteria for materials which are being digitized and the most common criteria in the existing digitization standards and guidelines. The special emphasis is put on the differences between selection criteria in several countries, which have already implemented such criteria in digitization projects, and those developed within Croatian national digitization project “Croatian Cultural Heritage”

Managing A Digitization Project: One Library\u27s Experience
The Jessie C. Eury Library of Lincoln Christian College and Seminary (Lincoln, IL) is proud of the Hymnals of the Stone-Campbell Movement: Enos E. Dowling Hymnal Collection on its website at www.lccs.edu/library/hymnals.
This online collection of more than 9,000 hymns from rare 19th century hymnals features works by Alexander Campbell, J.T. Johnson, Walter Scott, and Illinois residents such as Barton W. Stone, Silas W. Leonard, and the Fillmore Brothers. These hymnals were selected from some 2,000 gathered by Mr. Dowling, former academic dean at Lincoln Christian Seminary, throughout his lifetime, including nearly 200 affiliated with the Restoration Movement that arose from the 19th century Stone-Campbell religious heritage on the American frontier. His collection is one of the largest-known compilations of hymnals representing this religious movement and serves to illustrate changing religious musical styles
