Using DDC to create a visual knowledge map as an aid to online information retrieval

    Get PDF
Selection of search terms in an online search environment can be facilitated by the visual display of a knowledge map showing the various concepts and their links. This paper reports on a preliminary research aimed at designing a prototype knowledge map using DDC and its visual display. The prototype knowledge map created using the Protæ#169;gæ#169; and TGViz freeware has been demonstrated, and further areas of research in this field are discussed

Critical knowledge map as a decision tool for knowledge transfer actions

Knowledge transfer is no longer reducible to classical solutions such as face-to-face training, technical education or tutoring. Knowledge to be transferred is professional knowledge (Business Knowledge). It involves the whole Knowledge Capital within an organization. Identifying the knowledge components that are worthwhile transferring is not an easy task. This is the problem addressed in this paper.Knowledge transfer, Knowledge Management, Knowledge mapping, Knowledge capitalization

An Overview of Knowledge Mapping in Digital Business Industry: A Systematic Literature Review

    Get PDF
The increasing number of studies in the knowledge map shows attention from researchers in academic and professional areas. However, the knowledge map implementation has not effectively implemented in an organization whose business in the digital business industry, especially startup organization. The main reason is the lack of stakeholder's understanding of the knowledge map concept. Thus, this study gives a comprehensive understanding of knowledge map implementation in the digital business industry within the last five years period. The study will answer what problems knowledge map tackled, tools, and techniques used currently, the obstacles and benefits of using a knowledge map. The review was conducted through the structured systematic literature review procedure. It started with a review protocol declaration and ended with an analysis of the prior researches obtained from five credible sources. Only 25 of 775 studies remain after several filtering stages. It is found that a knowledge map is mostly used for decision-making purposes. Most studies adopted a visual knowledge map and concept map, even though it is difficult to align the knowledge depth. In the end, this study's result will help stakeholders to reflect on their existing knowledge relationship structure. This study also offers directions for future research and professional practices in digital business industry firms to perfect their existing organizational intellectual capital through a knowledge map

Visualized Cognitive Knowledge Map Integration for P2P Networks

In the knowledge management field, knowledge map created under the client-server architecture has been widely used to direct the knowledge sharing process. Peer-to-peer (P2P) architecture has been practicable for file sharing, distributed computing, instant messaging, etc. by virtue of the increases of Internet bandwidth and personal computer capability. P2P architecture attracts researchers and practitioners to study knowledge sharing issues in its autonomy and self-organization characters. It calls for academic efforts to design knowledge management supporting system as that for client-server architecture may not be applicable. This study proposes a visualized cognitive knowledge map integration system to facilitate knowledge management on P2P networks. By using the SOM (Self-Organized Map)-like model, called Egocentric SOM (ESOM), the prototyping system can merge the external knowledge under a focal peer’s knowledge structure and present the cognitive knowledge map visually. In evaluating the proposed integration method, this study allocates abstracts of industrial research reports from an industrial technology research institute according to their corresponding author peers and generates individual cognitive knowledge maps. The results from the evaluation experiments reveal that ESOM is capable to retain individual peer’s knowledge structure while articulating with that of other peers in the cognitive knowledge network

Creating a knowledge map for the Research Lifecycle

    Get PDF
In this study, a Knowledge Map (KM) was created based on the Research Lifecycle at the University of Central Florida to provide campus-wide services and resources to researchers. The KM aims to meet the needs of researchers and delivers guided searching and assistance in all aspects of research, including literature review, citation management, research data management, grant management, research work publication and dissemination. It elaborates the research processes and their associated services as presented in the Research Lifecycle, and links these points to various campus resources including those provided by the University Libraries, the Office of Research and Commercialization, the Institute for Simulation and Training and the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning. It gives unified support to the researchers during their entire research lifecycle and it will keep evolving and developing

A Mining-Based System Framework for Deploying Knowledge Maps of Composite E-Services

    Get PDF
Providing e-services and composite e-services on the Internet is an important trend of e-business. Composite e-services are complex processes which consist of various e-services provided by different e-service providers. In such complex environments, the flexibility and success of e-business depend on effective knowledge supports to access related information and resources of composite e-services. This work proposes a knowledge map platform to provide an effective knowledge support for utilizing composite e-services. A mining-based system framework is proposed to construct the knowledge map. Moreover, the proposed knowledge map is integrated with recommendation capability to provide users customized decision support in utilizing composite e-services
