    Integration of Multimedia Interactive Web Tools with In-Class Active Learning

    In this paper, we present our experience with an introduction to engineering course in which we used a combination of active and collaborative teaching methods, multimedia web-based material, and web-based interactive tools. The students were engaged in active learning in class with methods such as demonstrations, hands-on work, and group work. After class, the students used the web-based material that we developed, such as multiple choice quizzes, interactive applets, and animations. We have also developed a number of web-based course management tools that were used by the course instructors. We conclude that both the students and instructors had a very positive experience from using this combination of methods

    This paper introduces an interactive methodology to analize, design, and simulate sliding model controllers for R2 linear systems. This paper reviews sliding mode basic concepts and design methodologies and describes an interactive tool which has been developed to support teaching in this field. The tool helps students by generating a nice graphical and interactive display of most relevant concepts. This fact can be used so that students build their own intuition about the role of different parameters in a sliding mode controller. Described application has been coded with Sysquake using an event-driven solver technique. The Sysquake allows using precise integration methods in real time and handling interactivity in a simple manner.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

    Engaging with issues of emotionality in mathematics teacher education for social justice

    This article focuses on the relationship between social justice, emotionality and mathematics teaching in the context of the education of prospective teachers of mathematics. A relational approach to social justice calls for giving attention to enacting socially-just relationships in mathematics classrooms. Emotionality and social justice in teaching mathematics variously intersect, interrelate or interweave. An intervention, usng creative action methods, with a cohort of prospective teachers addressing these issues is described to illustrate the connection between emotionality and social justice in the context of mathematics teacher education. Creative action methods involve a variety of dramatic, interactive and experiential tools that can promote personal and group engagement and embodied reflection. The intervention aimed to engage the prospective teachers with some key issues for social justice in mathematics education through dialogue about the emotionality of teaching and learning mathematics. Some of the possibilities and limits of using such methods are considered

    У статті аналізуються підходи вчених до формулювання поняття «інтерактивне навчання», подається власне його трактування, обґрунтовані методи інтерактивного навчання, які сприяють ефективному розвитку активності й комунікативності вихованців у ході занять гуртка «Юний акваріуміст». У статті наголошується, що найбільш ефективними на заняттях гуртка «Юний акваріуміст» виявилися такі інтерактивні методи як мозковий штурм, дискусія, метод «прес», акваріум, активізуюча вікторина робота в парах або групах, знайди помилку тощо. In the article the scientific approaches to definition "interactive teaching" are analyzed, its interpretation is given, interactive teaching methods contributing to effective development of the pupils’ communicative activity at the hobby group "Young aquarist” studies are based.     Media Culture 2020: collaborative teaching and blended learning using social media and cloud-based technologies

    The Media Culture 2020 project was considered to be a great success by all the partners, academics and especially the students who took part. It is a true example of an intercultural, multidisciplinary, blended learning experience in higher education that achieved it goals of breaking down classroom walls and bridging geographical distance and cultural barriers. The students with different skills, coming from different countries and cultures, interacting with other enlarges the possibilities of creativity, collaboration and quality work. The blend of both synchronous and asynchronous teaching methods fostered an open, blended learning environment, one that extended the traditional boundaries of the classroom in time and space. The interactive and decentralized nature of digital tools enabled staff and students to communicate and strengthen social ties, alongside participation in the production of new knowledge and media content. For students and lecturers, the implementation of social media and cloud platforms offered an innovative solution to both teaching and learning in a collaborative manner. By leveraging the interactive and decentralised capabilities of a range of technologies in an educational context, this model of digital scholarship facilitates an open and dynamic working environment. Blended teaching methods allow for expansive collaboration, whereby information and knowledge can be accessed and disseminated across a number of networked devices
