    Community Relations and Development of Oil Producing Rural Communities of the Niger-Delta, Nigeria

    This paper qualitatively looks at the relationship between Community relations and rural development with special reference to oil producing communities in the Niger-Delta. It points out the adverse effects of oil exploitation and exploration by the multinational oil companies on the oil producing rural communities of the Niger-Delta. The oil producing rural communities are faced with mass unemployment due to the problem of environmental degradation, ecological problems are not adequately addressed, roads, electricity, water, education and health facilities are in terrible condition, youth restiveness and all sorts of crimes due to little or no community relations; thereby making the condition of living not conducive for the local people. This negligence has left the operations of the multinational oil companies in chaos due to the activities of the restive youths. As checks to these developmental challenges the oil companies consciously carried out some developmental works in the oil producing rural communities yet the problems of pipeline bombing, vandalism, etc continues. The paper believes the multinational developmental efforts were not appreciated because the power structures of the oil producing rural communities were not consulted. The paper therefore stressed the need for consultation to determine the felt-needs of the local people to foster good neighbourliness between the oil companies and the oil producing communities. &nbsp

    Influence of substrate types and reflector proximities over a NDTC antenna

    The influence of dissimilar substrates and reflector proximities over a newly developed Non-uniformly Distributed-Turns Coil (NDTC) antenna for High-Frequency (HF) Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) applications is presented. In the study, the performance of the HF-RFID NDTC antenna over various substrates with deposited conductor thicknesses is conducted. In addition, the effect over a conceivably encountered reflector in the proximity of the antenna is considered. Insensitive reflection coefficient (S11) responses for different substrate permittivities were experienced and the diverse conductor types and thicknesses contributed to a compromised magnetic-field (H-field) and recalculated matching network. The matching network additionally preserves resonance when the antennas is in close proximity to the reflector and a predictable H-field response for the separation range is shown

    Space Architecture: The Role, Work and Aptitude

    Space architecture has been an emerging discipline for at least 40 years. Has it arrived? Is space architecture a legitimate vocation or an avocation? If it leads to a job, what do employers want? In 2002, NASA Headquarters created a management position for a space architect whose job was to "lead the development of strategic architectures and identify high level requirements for systems that will accomplish the Nation's space exploration vision." This is a good job description with responsibility at the right level in NASA, but unfortunately, the office was discontinued two years later. Even though there is no accredited academic program or professional licensing for space architecture, there is a community of practitioners. They are civil servants, contractors and academicians supporting International Space Station and space exploration programs. In various ways, space architects currently contribute to human spaceflight, but there is a way for the discipline to be more effective in developing solutions to large scale complex problems. This paper organizes contributions from engineers, architects and psychologists into recommendations on the role of space architects in the organization, the process of creating and selecting options, and intrinsic personality traits including why they must have a high tolerance for ambiguity

    The low farm-gate price of agricultural commodities is commonly caused by low quality and complicated value chain. Quality improvement and direct selling through Mediated Partnership Model (Motramed) are conducted to increase farm-gate price and bargaining power of smallholder farmers. In Indonesia, Motramed has been applied in several coffee producing regions, such as Flores, Kintamani and East Java. This research aimed to understand the influence of quality improvement and direct selling activities through Motramed on market chain, farm-gate price and household coffee farmers' income in Indonesia. This research was conducted in Kintamani in 2013. This research also used farm-gate data in several specialty coffee producing regions, including Flores (Bajawa and Ruteng), Kintamani and East Java that collected during 2010 and 2011. I incorporated both quantitative and qualitative research methods to explore and analyse the data. Household farmer survey, semi-structured interview with coffee stakeholders including farmers, collectors, exporters, government officials and NGOs; and field observation were used for collecting the data.     The meaning of technology transfer is so wide but mostly involving some form of technology-related exchange. However, in this particular paper, technology transfer is consider as a concept to examine the process of  disseminating knowledge and skills that a person owned to another person in order to generate higher productivity with new approach of producing a particular product or service. Although, many researchers have explored the evolution of technology transfer, nonetheless some drivers are yet to be explored in a Malaysian manufacturing industry. This study, therefore attempts to determine the relationship between absorptive capacity, transfer capacity, communication motivation and learning intent and technology transfer performance. A survey methodology was used in a Japanese multinational company based in Klang Valley, Malaysia. A total of 117 questionnaires were received. Design research conducted in the preparation of this is quantitative that aims to determine the influence between two or more deeply variables describe or reveal a problem, situation, event or revealing fact as they are deeply and try to find a solution or problems solve. The results showed that Emotional intelligence has positive effect on performance with coefficient value of 0.161. Competence has positive effect on performance with coefficient value of 0.429. Work environment positively influence toward performance with coefficient value equal to 0,262. Adjust R Square value of 0.442.     This study aims to determine the effect of organizational commitment and motivation on lecturer performance of Pamulang University. The research method used is quantitative. The number of samples used is 200 respondents with the Slovin formula, and the sample technique used is proporsionate random sampling. Analytical methods used are multiple linear regression, consist of descriptive analysis, validity test, reliability test, classical assumption test, partial test, simultaneous test and test of determination. Result of research proves organizational commitment have significant effect to lecturer performance equal to 0,485. Motivation has a positive and significant effect on lecturer\u27s performance of 0.304. Simultaneously commitment and motivation have a significant effect on performance with contribution of 44.5

    Research of Influence of Potassium-rich Diets on the Physical Performance of Students

    The aim of the work is the scientific substantiation and experimental support of the expedience and use of potassium-cationic water for improving the bread quality and the study of the influence of potassium-rich diets on the physical performance of students. There was studied the influence of potassium cations on the activity of proteolytic enzymes of wheat flour. It was established, that at using potassium-cationic water, the output of wet gluten (35,1 %) essentially increases, at that the output of dry one (8,4 %) decreases to the same extent that is a positive factor in the bakery technology. It was proved that enriching the vital medium of bakery yeast by potassium cations essentially activates their ability to hydrolysis of maltose that favors activation of the process of gassing (Maltase activity – 35,1 min). The process of gassing influences the speed of dough-conduction and ready bread quality, especially volume (357,7, 100 g/ml), porosity (79,1 %) and crumb ability to compression (33,5 c.u.). It was established, that consumption of bread, produced on potassium-cationic water, favors the strengthening of the heart muscle tone, improvement of the general condition of the organism, especially, physical endurance and performance
