Possible Mutual Influences in the Prosody of Slovene Speech and Slovene Folk Songs
The article tackles the popular topic of the potential interaction of music and language by comparing the prosody of Slovene speech and the melodic and rhythmic properties of the Slovene folk song. The study shows potential connections between tonemicity and interval range, the predictability of word stress and rhythmic accent, and different dialects and their musical traditions. The article thus presents a preliminary study of potential similarities between a specific language and music. Although, due to a lack of research for other languages, it is difficult to guarantee that the results are not coincidental, the study presents a promising first attempt at such a comparison
The interrelation of intelligence, involvement in musical activities, and supportive musical family environment in ninth-graders
Intelligence has increasingly been becoming a desirable human trait, so she scientists from different fields devote it a lot of attention. We were interested in the interconnectedness of intelligence, musical activities and family environment in ninth graders. Correlations were determined with the differences in student achievement in measuring educative components of general intellectual abilities with standard progressive matrices (SPM). The survey results confirm that intelligence, musical activities and musical family environment significantly correlated with each other. The study included 177 randomly selected ninth graders from six basic schools in the region of Primorska
′Czech-Slovene′ musicians?: On the question of national identity in Slovene music at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century
In this article, the author observes and discusses the questions of national identity in the context of Czech and Slovenian music at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century. The Italian and German influences dominating Slovenian music in the past began from the mid 19th century onward to be replaced by predominantly Czech elements as the consequence of the numerous Czech musical immigration in Slovenia. Many of Czech musicians were naturalized in Slovenia and can therefore be included among Slovenian musicians. Although they actively supported the building of a Slovenian national style, they did not feel the need for the repeated аesthetic evaluation of traditional frames
From playing with sounds in English to the development of phonological awareness
V pričujočem članku so predstavljena teoretska izhodišča in vzorčni primeri spodbujanja razvoja fonološkega zavedanja, ob upoštevanju fonemskih razlik med prvim in drugim/tujim jezikom. Gre namreč za dejanja in učinke percepcije, védenja in prepoznavanja sveta, v katera otrok vključuje svoja predvidevanja in interese. For the last few decades we have witnessed an increased interest in introducing foreign languages at early stages of education. The introduction of a foreign language at pre-school level may occur in an integrated manner or in the form of additional activities which is also reflected in the pre-school curriculum. However, in both cases, special attention should be given to the development of listening skills, especially to phonological awareness. This paper presents a model for developing phonological awareness skills in learning English as a foreign language which can be adapted for different types of pre-school programmes and other foreign languages. The implementation of the outlined activities may facilitate children\u27s literacy development both in their first and foreign language
