Ethnic Self-Identification of First-Generation Immigrants
This paper uses the concept of ethnic self-identification of immigrants in a twodimensional framework. It acknowledges the fact that attachments to the home and the host country are not necessarily mutually exclusive. There are three possible paths of adjustment from separation at entry, namely the transitions to assimilation, integration and marginalization. We analyze the determinants of ethnic selfidentification in this process using samples of first-generation immigrants for males and females separately, and controlling for pre- and post-migration characteristics. Development of first generation aerospace NiMH cells
Gates Aerospace Batteries in conjunction with Gates Energy Products (GEP) has been developing NiMH technology for aerospace use since 1990. GEP undertook the development of NiMH technology for commercial cell applications in 1987. This program focused on wound cell technology for replacement of current NiCd technology. As an off shoot of this program small, wound cells were used to evaluate initial design options for aerospace prismatic cell designs. Early in 1991, the first aerospace prismatic cell designs were built in a 6 Ah cell configuration. These cells were used to initially characterize performance in prismatic configurations and begin early life cycle testing. Soon after the 6 Ah cells were on test, several 22 Ah cells were built to test other options. The results of testing of these cells were used to identify potential problem areas for long lived cells and develop solutions to those problems. Following these two cell builds, a set of 7 Ah cells was built to evaluate improvements to the technology. To date results from these tests are very promising. Cycle lives in excess of 2,200 LEO cycles at 50 percent DoD were achieved with cells continuing on test. Results from these cell tests are discussed and data presented to demonstrate feasibility of this technology for aerospace programs
Reservation Wages of First and Second Generation Migrants
This paper analyzes the reservation wages of first and second generation migrants. Based on recently collected and rich survey data of a representative inflow sample into unemployment in Germany, we empirically test the hypothesis that reservation wages increase from first to second generation migrants. Two extensions of the basic job search model, namely an unknown wage offer distribution and different reference standards, provide theoretical justifications for this conjecture. In both extensions, changing frames of reference are identified as a channel through which the phenomenon of increasing reservation wages may arise. In as far as language skills or self-evaluated returns to characteristics reflect a person's frames of reference, we find empirical support for this mechanism to be present.Migration, Ethnic Identity, Ethnosizer, Germany, Unemployment, Job Search, Reservation Wages
Search for First Generation Leptoquarks in ep Collisions at HERA
A search for first generation scalar and vector leptoquarks produced in ep
collisions is performed by the H1 Collaboration at HERA. The full H1 data
sample is used in the analysis, corresponding to an integrated luminosity 446
pb^-1. No evidence for the production of leptoquarks is observed in final
states with a large transverse momentum electron or with large missing
transverse momentum, and constraints on leptoquark models are derived. For
leptoquark couplings of electromagnetic strength lambda=0.3, first generation
leptoquarks with masses up to 800 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures; proceedings of talk given at ICHEP 2012,

SUSY-Breaking Parameters from RG Invariants at the LHC
We study Renormalization Group invariant (RGI) quantities in the Minimal
Supersymmetric Standard Model and show that they are a powerful and simple
instrument for testing high scale models of supersymmetry (SUSY)-breaking. For
illustration, we analyze the frameworks of minimal and general gauge mediated
(MGM and GGM) SUSY-breaking, with additional arbitrary soft Higgs mass
parameters at the messenger scale. We show that if a gaugino and two first
generation sfermion soft masses are determined at the LHC, the RGIs lead to MGM
sum rules that yield accurate predictions for the other gaugino and first
generation soft masses. RGIs can also be used to reconstruct the fundamental
MGM parameters (including the messenger scale), calculate the hypercharge
D-term, and find relationships among the third generation and Higgs soft
masses. We then study the extent to which measurements of the full first
generation spectrum at the LHC may distinguish different SUSY-breaking
scenarios. In the case of MGM, although most deviations violate the sum rules
by more than estimated experimental errors, we find a 1-parameter family of GGM
models that satisfy the constraints and produce the same first generation
spectrum. The GGM-MGM degeneracy is lifted by differences in the third
