The effects of supplemental feeds containing different protein: Energy ratios on the growth and survival of Tilapia nilotica (Oreochromis niloticus) in brackishwater ponds
A research was conducted in thirty approximately 100 sq.m earthern ponds of the Brackishwater Aquaculture Centre (BAC), College of Fisheries, University of the Philippines, Leganes Iloilo from November 7, 1982 to March 7, 1983 to evaluate the effects of nine supplemental feeds containing different protein: energy ratios on the growth and survival of Tilapia nilotica in brackishwater ponds. Nine supplemental feeds formulated were with protein levels of 20%, 25%, and 30% each at three energy levels of 3,000 kcals; 3,500 kcals; and 4,000 kcals. There was a control treatment with no feeding so that mean weight gain growth rate, feed conversion rate, and survival were determined. Fish fingerlings were acclimated from 0-29 ppt. salinity before the experiment and 20% of fish in each treatment were sampled after every 30 days. Growth rates were significantly different and increased with increasing energy level at the 30% protein feeds but decreased at high energy levels in the 20% and 25% protein feeds. Feed conversion was significantly different due to interaction between protein and energy levels in the feeds, and was better at the 30:3,500 kcals feeds having a feed conversion of 1.55 g. Hypertrophic pyloric stenosis
A 6-week old baby was brought to A&E by her parents, after a 3 week history of frequent vomiting, not tolerating feeds, and weight loss. She was well for the first 3 weeks of life, before she stopped tolerating any feeds. Despite several changes with the feeds given, the baby’s symptoms did not improve. Moreover, she started losing weight, while she became increasingly irritable and inconsolable. Her consultant paediatrician decided to admit her for a trial of other formula feeds, and further investigations. In hospital, examination was unremarkable, except for an intermittently palpable mass in the RUQ. An ultrasound of the abdomen confirmed the diagnosis of pyloric stenosis. She was kept nil by mouth, an NG tube inserted for drainage, and intravenous fluids administered, with close monitoring of fluid input and output. Pyloromyotomy was performed and the patient was discharged after ensuring that she was tolerating feeds.peer-reviewe

of partially replacing fish meal with aigae (U lactuca) of the formulated feeds on the growth This preliminary study investigated the effect of seaweed and formulated feed on the growth, the shell color of this abalone and survival of abalone. The result s showed that the absolute growth of abalone fed by macroalgae G.verrucosa higher .than abalone fed with other feed and significantly different from the makroalgae U lactuca and others feeds fommlated. Results showed that abalones fed the seaweed G. 'verrucosa and formulated feed with G. verrucosa meal had dark - brown shells. However, abalones fod with makroalgae U !actuca and either of the formulated feeds (with spiru1ina) and formulated feeds (with U lactuca meal) remarkably had the s2me good growth performance and green shell appea;:ance. Investigations showed that seaweeds meal could be the better replacement for fish meal in pelleted feeds of H asinina.

Mixing the reactive with the personal: Opportunities for end-user programming in personal information management
The transition of personal information management (PIM) tools off the desktop to the Web presents an opportunity to augment these tools with capabilities provided by the wealth of real-time information readily available. In this chapter, we describe a personal information assistance engine that lets end-users delegate to it various simple context- and activity-reactive tasks and reminders. Our system, Atomate, treats RSS/ATOM feeds from social networking and life-tracking sites as sensor streams, integrating information from such feeds into a simple unified RDF world model representing people, places and things and their time-varying states and activities. Combined with other information sources on the web, including the user's online calendar, web-based e-mail client, news feeds and messaging services, Atomate can be made to automatically carry out a variety of simple tasks for the user, ranging from context-aware filtering and messaging, to sharing and social coordination actions. Atomate's open architecture and world model easily accommodate new information sources and actions via the addition of feeds and web services. To make routine use of the system easy for non-programmers, Atomate provides a constrained-input natural language interface (CNLI) for behavior specification, and a direct-manipulation interface for inspecting and updating its world model
Diet and activity in Swedish dogs
In this thesis the demographics, diet and activity in a defined population of 460 insured Swedish dogs between 1 and 3 years was presented. The data was collected by using a mail and telephone questionnaire. The repeatability (the questionnaire repeated to the same dog owners) and validity (questionnaire compared to 7-day weighed registration of dietary intake and recording of activity) of the questionnaire were examined, and shown to be good to excellent for most of the parameters measured. Also, the most commonly used commercial dog feeds were analysed, and the results were compared to the declared values and to the recommended nutrient profiles. The insured dogs were shown to be representative for all Swedish dogs of the same age. A typical Swedish dog consumed 75% of the energy intake from commercial feeds, and a smaller part as table foods, but with large variations between individuals. Most of the dogs were fed total diets supplying adequate amounts of the nutrients compared to the recommended nutrient profiles. Total diets that did cause deviations from recommended levels were most commonly those consisting of only table foods (too low levels of vitamins and minerals) or commercial feeds supplied with extra vitamin and mineral supplements (too high levels of vitamins and minerals). The total energy intakes were comparable to previously published studies on maintenance energy requirements of adult dogs, but varied due to sex, breed and weight. Three quarters of the dogs performed some type of activity for one hour or more per day, but although substantial variations were recorded, there was no significant difference in energy intake that could be related to the amount of activity recorded. There was a tendency (P=0.07) that the general temperament of the dog had an influence on the energy intake. The analysed protein and fat content in commercial feeds was on average highly correlated with the declared values and with the recommended nutrient profiles. However, especially the calcium but also other minerals of commercial dog feeds often deviated from declared values, and did not always meet the AAFCO (2000) nutrient profiles. More expensive feeds had the same magnitude of deviation from declared energy and nutrient values as did feeds of a lower cost. This validated questionnaire could be used to collect data on dietary intake and activity in future epidemiological studies in order to quantify the influence of these factors of the effects on health and disease in defined populations of dogs

Price Discovery and the Accuracy of Consolidated Data Feeds in the U.S. Equity Markets
Both the scientific community and the popular press have paid much attention
to the speed of the Securities Information Processor, the data feed
consolidating all trades and quotes across the US stock market. Rather than the
speed of the Securities Information Processor, or SIP, we focus here on its
accuracy. Relying on Trade and Quote data, we provide various measures of SIP
latency relative to high-speed data feeds between exchanges, known as direct
feeds. We use first differences to highlight not only the divergence between
the direct feeds and the SIP, but also the fundamental inaccuracy of the SIP.
We find that as many as 60 percent or more of trades are reported out of
sequence for stocks with high trade volume, therefore skewing simple measures
such as returns. While not yet definitive, this analysis supports our
preliminary conclusion that the underlying infrastructure of the SIP is
currently unable to keep pace with the trading activity in today's stock

Aluminium Feeds for Reflector for NadirSAR
With the long term aim of developing a NadirSAR quadrotor UAV system specialized for monitoring broad acre grain fields, a large aperture load bearing antenna to use as the main structural element was sort. Here initial design work is presented on a candidate short f/D parabolic reflector antenna. An optimized splash plate feed and a dual mode coaxial horn were designed for the 10 to 10.5GHz experimenter’s band and were fed by aluminum waveguide. Both feeds gave better than 30% aperture efficiency on a low cost 11.6l0 diameter reflector that had a focal length of f/D=0.27
