    An Experimental Work on Alkaline Resistance Glass Fiber Reinforced concrete

    Conventional concrete has the draw backs of cracks due to plastic shrinkage, low tensile strength – compressive strength ratio, low ductility, expansion and contraction with change in temperature. Continuous research efforts are going on to develop a high performance concrete by using fibers and other admixtures. One such effort is the research on an alkaline resistance glass fiber reinforced concrete. GFRC has many advantages over conventional concrete such as It reduce the bleeding of concrete, which improves the surface integrity, homogeneity of concrete and reduces the probability of cracks. Glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) is a composite concrete which has abilities to overcome all these deficiency and make construction faster, resistance of corrosion, durable and can increase the tensile strength of concrete. The alkaline resistance glass fiber reinforced concrete (ARGFRC) resists rust and corrosion and hence contributes to the durability of concrete. In this project, an attempt has been made to study the characteristics strength properties of alkaline resistance glass fiber reinforced concrete for structural applications. Alkaline resistance glass fiber with an aspect ratio of 857.1 were added to C35 grade reference concrete mix as reinforcement in proportions of 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6% and 1% by the volume of concrete. 150 mm x 150 mm x 150mm cube moulds, 100 mm x 100 mm x 500mm beam moulds and 150 mm diameter and 300 mm high cylindrical specimens were cast and tested for all the ARGFRC concrete mixes for the C35 grade reference mix for strength comparison. Test is also conducted to study the effect of high temperature. The study shows that 0.6% addition of A.R glass fibers in ARGFRC has maximum compressive strength, split-tensile strength and flexural strength by 14.98% with respect to C35 grade reference concrete mix. Similarly, 1% addition of A.R glass fibers in ARGFRC has minimum characteristics strength by 2.26% with respect to C35 grade reference concrete mix. 0% addition of A.R glass fibers in ARGFRC has lowest decrease in high temperature strength by 14.26% with respect to compressive strength at 28 days. 0.6% addition of A.R glass fibers in ARGFRC has lowest workability by 74.44% with respect to C35 grade reference concrete mix and 1% addition of A.R glass fiber shows a negative trend in workability

    The work fluctuations of a harmonic oscillator in contact with a thermostat and driven out of equilibrium by an external force are studied experimentally. For the work both the transient and stationary state fluctuation theorems hold. The finite time corrections are very different from those of a first order Langevin equation. The heat and work fluctuations are studied when a periodic forcing is applied to the oscillator. The importance of the choice of the ''good work'' to compute the free energy from the Jarzinsky equality is discussed

    In this paper we discuss James Buchanan’s contribution in the narrow domain of understanding committee voting under majority rule. We then go on to discuss Charles Plott’s seminal experimental work on the topic that sparked a wave of public choice experimental work. However, given Plott’s claims that Buchanan influenced him significantly, it is puzzling that his work with Morris Fiorina explores a question outside of those which Buchanan and Tullock found interesting. We suggest several ways to resolve this tension. Our chapter concludes by discussing a lacuna in the experimental public choice literature in which Buchanan was particularly interested—logrolling, or vote trading

    Standard Voting Power Indices Work: An Experimental Investigation of Pure Voting Power

    We evaluate the accuracy of power indices by experimentally measuring the political power embodied in blocks of votes per se. The experiment incorporates several subjects interacting in online chat rooms under supervision. Chat rooms and processes for selecting subjects reduce or eliminate extraneous political forces leaving logrolling as the primary political force.     Experimentally measured thermal masses of adsorption heat exchangers

    The thermal masses of components influence the performance of many adsorption heat pump systems. However, typically when experimental adsorption systems are reported, data on thermal mass are missing or incomplete. This work provides original measurements of the thermal masses for experimental sorption heat exchanger hardware. Much of this hardware was previously reported in the literature, but without detailed thermal mass data. The data reported in this work are the first values reported in the literature to thoroughly account for all thermal masses, including heat transfer fluid. The impact of thermal mass on system performance is also discussed, with detailed calculation left for future work. The degree to which heat transfer fluid contributes to overall effective thermal mass is also discussed, with detailed calculation left for future work. This work provides a framework for future reporting of experimental thermal masses. The utilization of this framework will enrich the data available for model validation and provide a more thorough accounting of adsorption heat pumps
