Are there really conformal frames? Uniqueness of affine inflation

    Get PDF
Here we concisely review the nonminimal coupling dynamics of a single scalar field in the context of purely affine gravity and extend the study to multifield dynamics. The coupling is performed via an affine connection and its associated curvature without referring to any metric tensor. The latter arises a posteriori and it may gain an emergent character like the scale of gravity. What is remarkable in affine gravity is the transition from nonminimal to minimal couplings which is realized by only field redefinition of the scalar fields. Consequently, the inflationary models gain a unique description in this context where the observed parameters, like the scalar tilt and the tensor-to-scalar ratio, are invariant under field reparametrization. Overall, gravity in its affine approach is expected to reveal interesting and rich phenomenology in cosmology and astroparticle physics.Comment: Review Article: matches the published version in IJMPD, 44 pages, 1 table and 2 figure

Thesis (Master)--Izmir Institute of Technology, City and Regional Planning, Izmir, 2004Includes bibliographical references (leaves: 75)Text in English; Abstract: Turkish and Englishxii, 142 leavesProject success is achieved via the obtainment of the product which provides desired quality within definite time and limited resources and with maximum performance. Project management is an occupation which requires utilizing modern management techniques to provide this. Today, project management concepts are utilized in many different fields such as medicine, chemistry, industry.etc. Western countries utilize project management approach in extensive urban design projects aiming especially urban renewal and transformation, too. However, it is not, yet, possible to say that this approach is widely utilized in our country.s urban design practice. This study investigates the perception of project management understanding in Turkey.s urban design practice and the factors constraining the development of professional project management in this field

Thesis (Doctoral)--Izmir Institute of Technology, City and Regional Planning, Izmir, 2005Includes bibliographical references (leaves: 199-202)Text in English; Abstract: Turkish and English.xii, 224 leavesThis thesis aims at scrutinizing what is meant by the concept of justice and the ways the concept is being referred to in urban planning practice in Turkey. Aimed as such, the due analysis involves examination of how the concept is taken into consideration and defined by different actors taking part in urban planning process of our country. The basic data underlying the considerations based on not only the conceptual discussions, but also the planning practice will comprise different demands concerning the urban space and the cases of lawsuit under control of adjudication as reflections of these demands upon the process of planning. The questions to which this study based on .justice. in the urban system and the planning discipline are to be answered can be listed as follows: Which concepts, which ideals, which discourses and methods are used during the process of distribution mechanism in the economic realm, law system and judicial process? How are the basic concepts of justice, namely equality, interest, right and liberty used in defining and encountering the urban social needs in these processes? Do the achieved results involve any targeted ends that can be called as just? In order to elucidate the understanding and demands of justice, conceptual information pertaining to the concept of justice is required. For this reason, study focuses on theories of justice and elaborates the fundamental points of concepts, theories and their reflection on the state regulations. Regarding an assessment of the Turkish practice, overall assessments are held as based on cases of lawsuit under control of adjudication. The cases of lawsuit are assumed to represent matters of conflict/dispute and spatial demands of actors regarding the urban space. Accepted as such, the spatial disputes will be elaborated on basis of the matters of case study area in emphasis

Proceedings of the 9th Arab Society for Computer Aided Architectural Design (ASCAAD) international conference 2021 (ASCAAD 2021): architecture in the age of disruptive technologies: transformation and challenges.

The ASCAAD 2021 conference theme is Architecture in the age of disruptive technologies: transformation and challenges. The theme addresses the gradual shift in computational design from prototypical morphogenetic-centered associations in the architectural discourse. This imminent shift of focus is increasingly stirring a debate in the architectural community and is provoking a much needed critical questioning of the role of computation in architecture as a sole embodiment and enactment of technical dimensions, into one that rather deliberately pursues and embraces the humanities as an ultimate aspiration

1st International Conference on Technologies for E-Learning and Digital Entertainment, Edutainment 2006; Hangzhou; China; 16 April 2006 through 19 April 2006In today's new economy, characterized by industrial revolutions, globalization and information technology changes traditional classroom and teaching methods. Calculus is the basic course for the fresher at university. Mathematics has a negative development at universities and colleges. The number of students taking mathematics courses and those successfully passing the exams are rapidly decreasing. To overturn this negative development, it may be necessary to teach in a different way. This is where new technology could play an important role. We create a web browser environment by using the webMathematica, which is a new technology based on Java Server Page, Tomcat and Mathematica, in learning calculus. The modules consist of topic modules linked with case study modules, to help learn calculus and see it in context. The aim of our project is to use new technology to present mathematics on the web, and create a pilot course for students and teachers available free on the web. The heart of our approach is the development of mathematical power: understanding, using, and appreciating mathematics. Students can reach any documents for calculus and solve their problems with webMathematica to check whether their results are correct or not.
