Interactive Co-Design of Form and Function for Legged Robots using the Adjoint Method

Our goal is to make robotics more accessible to casual users by reducing the domain knowledge required in designing and building robots. Towards this goal, we present an interactive computational design system that enables users to design legged robots with desired morphologies and behaviors by specifying higher level descriptions. The core of our method is a design optimization technique that reasons about the structure, and motion of a robot in coupled manner in order to achieve user-specified robot behavior, and performance. We are inspired by the recent works that also aim to jointly optimize robot's form and function. However, through efficient computation of necessary design changes, our approach enables us to keep user-in-the-loop for interactive applications. We evaluate our system in simulation by automatically improving robot designs for multiple scenarios. Starting with initial user designs that are physically infeasible or inadequate to perform the user-desired task, we show optimized designs that achieve user-specifications, all while ensuring an interactive design flow.Comment: 8 pages; added link of the accompanying vide

Web Content Management Systems, a Collaborative Environment in the Information Society

The aim of the present paper is to analyze the main models of collaboration and the use of a Web CMS, in order to develop an online community. Taking into consideration the multitude of the existing Web CMSs on the market and their diverse functionalities, we conducted a prospective study that tests the development trends in the field, with the view of finding out which are the most important Web CMSs in practice, and which are the most important functionalities they have to possess, in order to develop a collaborative online community. The results of the study show that the most popular Web CMS is Joomla, and the most widespread programming language is PHP. Likewise, we consider that this study can help the entry-level web developers to get an overview of the most popular Web CMSs, and their functionalities.collaboration, content management, web content management systems

Los coros vascos y su problemática

El artículo analiza la problemática de los coros vascos. En primer lugar, hay que señalar dos grandes grupos: -Orfeones que cultivan el género sinfónico-coral, interpretan preferentemente obras compuestas para solistas, coro y orquesta -Coros y corales que cantan a veces solos, sin acompañamiento instrumental. Los coros vascos, en general son amateurs. Los problemas planteados en los orfeones se centran en: falta de asistencia a ensayos, falta de elementos u orfeonistas nuevos con preparación musical suficiente, dificultades económicas (aportaciones de socios protectores, subvenciones municipales). Los coros vascos a pesar de su excelente material humano, no pueden perfeccionarse por falta de medios económicos. Idéntica problemática se observa en los coros y corales. No se ha creado una escuela coral, una nueva técnica vocal ni un estilo de dirección. Los coros vascos, por varios motivos, están atravesando una etapa de evolución, una crisis de crecimiento, que podrán superar con ayuda de todo
