Making a Contour Map
The purpose of this activity is to learn how contour maps can be made by hand. Students plot data from GLOBE schools on a map with latitude and longitude lines and draw contours based on the values plotted. A suggested extension and how to use this activity as an assessment is included. Educational levels: Middle school, High school

The profit surface is a visualization technique for data computed from trading rules. I simulate price paths and operate the trading rules to compute cumulative returns for the rule under different specifications. Beware the Non-uniqueness of Einstein Rings
We explain how an approximation to the rings formed by the host galaxies in
lensed QSOs can be inferred from the QSO data alone. A simple ring image can be
made from any lens model by a simple piece of computer graphics: just plot a
contour map of the arrival-time surface with closely-spaced contours. We go on
to explain that rings should be (a) sensitive to time-delay ratios between
different pairs of images, but (b) very insensitive to H_0. We illustrate this

Scale dependence and collinear subtraction terms for Higgs production in gluon fusion at N3LO
The full, explicit, scale dependence of the inclusive N3LO cross section for
single Higgs hadroproduction is obtained by calculating the convolutions of
collinear splitting kernels with lower-order partonic cross sections. We
provide results for all convolutions of splitting kernels and lower-order
partonic cross sections to the order in epsilon needed for the full N3LO
computation, as well as their expansions around the soft limit. We also discuss
the size of the total scale uncertainty at N3LO that can be anticipated with
