Alaska career pathways: A baseline analysis
This report details the findings from a 2013 statewide study of career pathways (CP) and programs of study (PoS) in secondary districts in Alaska. Twenty-seven of Alaska’s 54 districts provided data around the maturity of their CP/PoS, the availability of different CP/PoS, how career planning is addressed, and the availability of courses and PoS in the Health Sciences cluster. The differences between urban and rural communities are often noted in conversations around education, programming and policy in Alaska, and the data in this report reflect this established phenomenon. The contribution of this report is in helping to demystify and contextualize some of these known differences, and to make differentiated recommendations for moving forward.Acknowledgements / Executive summary / Introduction / Context for study / Method / Participation / Part I - Maturity of career pathway components / Part II - Available PoS within the career clusters / Part III Career planning / Part IV Health / Implications / Limitations / Recommendations / Conclusions / Reference
A Report from the Design Team for Compensation and Career Pathways
The Design Team for Compensation and Career Pathways is a group of teachers, and school and central office leaders selected by the Denver Public Schools (DPS) and the Denver Classroom Teachers Association (DCTA). They were charged with engaging in a learning process to determine if there were ways to strengthen the compensation, career pathways and related structures to support recruitment and retention of strong teachers and increase career satisfaction and success within DPS. They undertook this process in anticipation of the need to renew the agreement that governs the district's nationally renowned Professional Compensation System for Teachers (ProComp) as well as upcoming contract negotiations between DPS and DCTA.Over four months the Team met nine times. Its work involved reviewing research studies, examining compensation and career progression examples from other school districts and selected non-education industries, reviewing teacher and principal focus group and survey results, and engaging in deep discussion around design principles and possible frameworks that could be used to strengthen ProComp and career opportunities for teachers. This report is the product of their work
Professorial roles: a study of the professorial populations within nursing and midwifery, social work and allied health professions
The professorial populations in nursing/midwifery, social work and allied health are relatively new in academia compared to longer established professions such as medicine and dentistry. Less is known about the roles, career pathways, characteristics and career aspirations of the professoriate within these emerging professions.
A survey was undertaken from sample populations in each of the three professorial groups in order to obtain qualitative and quantitative data on professorial roles and activities, career pathway information and support mechanisms for professorial positions. This paper discusses the findings of the survey which relate specifically to professorial roles and activities and whether the identified roles reflect the professorial activities proposed by the National Conference of University Professors (NCUP)
Other aspects of this survey including career pathways, findings relating to gender and support mechanisms will form the basis of future papers.

Preparing Future Faculty Annual Report, 2012-2013
The 2012/2013 academic year saw continued development of the ODU Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) program, with increases in average PFF event attendance and in the number of students who completed the PFF certificate. The four regular events drew an average attendance of 46, compared to an average of 27 last year. An additional 15 PFF certificates were awarded this year, compared to an average of just over six in the previous three years. This brings the total to 44. An important factor in this increase was an agreement with the Registrar’s Office to place a notification of completion of the PFF Certificate on the student’s transcript.
The committee also undertook a search for a new Steering Committee Chair for the program. After a university-wide announcement, the committee interviewed three candidates for the position. Dr. Wie Yusuf, Assistant Professor in Urban Studies and Public Administration, was selected and will take over leadership of the program in Fall 2013. In addition, a call for volunteers to serve on the Steering Committee resulted in a very positive response. Dr. Chris Osgood, Associate Dean of the College of Sciences, will join the committee, as will six graduate students representing five of the six colleges at ODU and three Norfolk State University graduate students
Assessing California's Multiple Pathways Field
The multiple pathways approach to high school education combines rigorous academic learning and career skills to give students the intellectual and real-world experience to succeed in college, career and life. Growing evidence shows that the multiple pathways approach holds promise for increasing academic engagement and achievement, reducing high school dropout rates and boosting students' future earning power. The James Irvine Foundation engaged the Bridgespan Group to assess the state of the multiple pathways field in California and to make recommendations to strengthen it. Assessing California's Multiple Pathways Field: Preparing Youth for Success in College and Career offers findings and recommendations based on a newly developed framework that assesses the multiple pathways field based on five characteristics of strong fields
