The Iray Light Transport Simulation and Rendering System
While ray tracing has become increasingly common and path tracing is well
understood by now, a major challenge lies in crafting an easy-to-use and
efficient system implementing these technologies. Following a purely
physically-based paradigm while still allowing for artistic workflows, the Iray
light transport simulation and rendering system allows for rendering complex
scenes by the push of a button and thus makes accurate light transport
simulation widely available. In this document we discuss the challenges and
implementation choices that follow from our primary design decisions,
demonstrating that such a rendering system can be made a practical, scalable,
and efficient real-world application that has been adopted by various companies
across many fields and is in use by many industry professionals today
A robust digital image watermarking using repetition codes against common attacks
Digital watermarking is hiding the information inside a digital media to protect for
such documents against malicious intentions to change such documents or even
claim the rights of such documents. Currently the capability of repetition codes on
various attacks in not sufficiently studied. In this project, a robust frequency domain
watermarking scheme has been implemented using Discrete Cosine Transform
(DCT). The idea of this scheme is to embed an encoded watermark using repetition
code (3, 1) inside the cover image pixels based on Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT)
embedding technique. The proposed methods have undergone several simulation
attacks tests in order to check up and compare their robustness against various
attacks, like salt and pepper, speckle, compress, Gaussian, image contrast, resizing
and cropping attack. The robustness of the watermarking scheme has been calculated
using Peak Signal-To-Noise Ratio (PSNR), Mean Squared Error (MSE) and
Normalized Correlations (NC). In our experiments, the results show that the
robustness of a watermark with repetition codes is much better than without
repetition code
Numerical analysis of hot deep drawing of din 27MNCRB5 steel sheets under controlled stretching
Hot stamping has been widely studied and increasingly applied in the automotive industry. This process is characterized by its ability to stamp high strength steels, yielding products with high mechanical strength, thus reducing the weight of stamped components and therefore the vehicles weight. It also demands less energy because steel sheets are heated by induction, more efficient than electric furnaces. With controlled stretching it is possible to manufacture thinner stamped parts with high mechanical strength, therefore it is necessary to know the formability limits to prevent failure and achieve the largest possible thickness reduction. In this work the hot formability of DIN 27MnCrB5 steel sheets under stretching conditions was evaluated by numerical simulation with the finite element software Forge2008. The numerical results were compared to experimental results. Initially hot tensile tests were simulated to define the strain rate in different regions of the sample and to evaluate the deformation at fracture. For tests at 700, 800 and 900ºC it was found that the strain rates vary from 0.01 to 0.5 s-1. Experimental tensile tests were also carried out with the same conditions as simulated. Both simulation and experiments presented very similar results for the ultimate tensile strength, and therefore it was possible to assume the experimental fracture strain as a consistent input for the numerical models. With the results of the tensile tests, hot Nakazima tests were simulated to evaluate the highest dome which could be formed without failure risks caused by sheet thickness thinning. The simulation results were validated by experimental tests, and as a result, a new numerical strategy was elaborated to define the hot formability based on the plastic instability and necking localization as a function of the stamping temperature and blank dimensions
An interactive approach to learning economics: The WinEcon package
Under the TLTP initiative, the Economics Consortium is developing an interactive computer‐based learning package called WinEcon. The package is directed at first‐year economics undergraduates, particularly those taking economics as a supplementary course. Using recent technological developments, the aim is both to facilitate a further increase in student numbers without a proportionate increase in teaching staff, and to provide a better method of student learning. Some key elements of WinEcon are set out in this paper and demonstrated by screens produced at Leicester University. Methods of presenting textual information that give the user control over accessing it are described. For learning difficult concepts, a visual active learning approach is discussed. It involves user interaction and step‐by‐step analysis. The importance of flexibility and choice is emphasized, and the capacity of the computer to assist in deepening and consolidating learning is shown
The Transformation of Accounting Information Systems Curriculum in the Last Decade
Accounting information systems (AIS) are an extremely important component of accounting and accounting education. The purpose of the current study is to examine the transformation of accounting information systems (AIS) curriculum in the last decade. The motivation for this research comes from the vast advances made in the world of information technology (IT) and information systems (IS). The specific research questions addressed in the current study are: (1) how has AIS curriculum changed in the 18 years since SOX? (2) How has AIS curriculum adjusted in recent years with the emergence of the new hot-button topic big data/data analytics? Overall, this study finds that the core of AIS curriculum has not significantly changed over the last decade. However, more emphasis is being placed on topics such as enterprise wide systems/ERP, IT audits, computer fraud, and transaction-processing. Related, several new topical coverages have been introduced such as business analysts and big data/data analytics. The key contribution of this paper is to provide accounting students and accounting educators with useful information regarding the most significant shifts in AIS over the last decade and insight into the most valuable current AIS topics
Airline E-commerce user experience experiment: An investigation of Thai LCCs passengers' purchasing behaviour among different online platforms
Purpose: This study examines the current state of the airline’s e-commerce platforms and seek to identify their benefits and disadvantages in the aspect of user experience. Design/methodology/approach: The study commenced by first reviewing the literatures on actual sale figure from the studied Thai LCC, user interface (UI) and user experience (UX). It then proceeded to gather the empirical evidences using questionnaires from 135 active air passengers who have online purchasing experience. The composite findings from literature review and surveys were then used to design and apply for the final phase which is a series of in-depth interviews of air passengers on their usability test sessions and experts from the related industries. Coding and clustering was utilised to analyse the qualitative data obtained. Findings: The study examines the differences in online ticket purchasing platforms including airline's website, mobile-site and mobile application. The results identified five areas of factors: physical, trust, willingness to learn, context of use and adjustment. With regard to these factors, there are no single platform that outperform others. Airlines need to ensure that UX/UI of all platforms meet the users’ requirements in all circumstances. Originality/value: The study reveals the customer thinking processes on online purchasing behaviour. It focuses on web-usability and user experience of different booking platforms. The findings allow the subjected LCC to improve customer experience and optimise its platforms. The paper could also benefit other entrepreneurs who are in the related industry or similar contexts. In addition, the study of user-experience in the context of airline industry, particularly in the emerging countries like Thailand is limited.Peer Reviewe
