Antioxidant potential of different extracts and fractions of Catharanthus roseus shoots
Antioxidant effectiveness of indigenous medicinal plant C. roseus shoots extracts and fractions with solvents of different polarity (n–hexane, ethylacetate, methanol, chloroform) was assessed for total phenolics content (TPC), total flavonoid contents (TFC), DPPH radical scavenging activity and % inhibition of peroxidation in linoleic acid system. The C. roseus extracts and fractions contained appreciable levels of total phenolic contents 3.2 to 8.5 GAE (g/100g per dry matter) and total flavonoid contents 1.8 to 5.4 CE (g/100 of per dry matter). The C. roseus shoots extracts and fractions also exhibited good DPPH radical IC50, 28.2 to 119 µg/ml and Inhibition of Peroxidation in Linoleic Acid (38.4 to75.1%) respectively. Of the C. roseus shoots extracts and fractions tested, 100% methanolic extract exhibited the maximum antioxidant activity, the results of the present investigation demonstrated significant (p<0.05) variations in the antioxidant activity. The results of the present comprehensive analysis demonstrated that C. roseus extracts and fractions are a viable source of natural antioxidants and might be exploited for functional foods and nutraceutical applications
Antioxidant Activity of Various Extracts and Organic Fractions of Ziziphus jujuba
Antioxidant effectiveness of indigenous medicinal plant Ziziphus jujuba shoots extracts and fractions with different polarity solvents (n–hexane, ethylacetate, methanol, chloroform) was assessed for total phenolics content (TPC), total flavonoid contents (TFC), DPPH radical scavenging activity and percentage inhibition of peroxidation in linoleic acid system. The shoots extracts and fractions contained appreciable levels of total phenolic contents 310-823 GAE (mg/100g Dry plant matter) and total flavonoid contents 210-650 CE (mg/100g of Dry plant matter). The Ziziphus jujuba extracts and various organic fractions also exhibited good DPPH 50% inhibition (IC50) ranges from 23.1µg/mL to 52.5 µg/ml and Inhibition of Peroxidation in Linoleic Acid  20.1 to 70.1%., respectively. Of the Ziziphus jujuba shoots extracts and fractions tested, 100% methanolic extract and 100% chloroform fraction exhibited the maximum antioxidant activity, the results of the present investigation demonstrated significant (p< 0.05) variations in the antioxidant activity. The results of the present comprehensive analysis demonstrated that Ziziphus jujuba shoots extracts and organic fractions are a viable source of natural antioxidants and might be exploited for functional foods and nutraceutical application
On the elastic behavior of a single polyelectrolyte chain
This study was carried out to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of methanolic extract and different fractions (n-butanol, ethyl acetate, chloroform and n-hexane) of S.nigrum leaves. The antimicrobial activity was determined by the disc diffusion method and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against a panel of microorganisms (four bacterial strains, i.e P. multocida, E. coli, B. subtilis and S. aureus and three fungal strains, i.e A. flavus, A. niger and R. solani).The results indicated that leaf extract and fractions of S. nigrum were mildly potent as antibacterial agent.
