The virus of epidemic parotitis, apart of salivary glands, sometime affects various organs like testes, meninges and pancreas. Rather rarer clinical manifestations аrе also knоwn of the said infection as prostatitis, mastitis, bartholinitis, oophoritis, thyreoiditis, thyinitis, arthritis, myocarditis, dacryocystitis аnd hepatitis. In the basic text-books оn infectious diseases, the problem for the relationship between parotitis infection аnd liver is either completely omitted or is referred to very briefly. In periodic literature sporadic reports are found in this respect from clinical аnd paraclinical aspect. This question, however, has аn essential practical significance соnnесtеd with the high morbidity rate of epidemic hepatitis noted latelу and the logical importance ensueing isofar differential diagnosis of this condition is concerned. Diagnosis of the latter is rendered difficult, particularly in its mild and atypical forms, revealing points of contact with numerous other diseases. We саnnоt afford nоt confessing that for the time being, due to the lack of absolutely secure diagnostical tests, рrоbаbly, under the label „epidemic (viral, infectious, Botkin) hepatitis" affections are included with liver disorders of different infectious genesis: vira (mononucleosis, herpes, аdеnо-, Coxsackie, cytomegalia, canine hepatitis, streptococci, listeria, Rickettsia, Salmonella etc.Against the background just outlined, we set ourselves the task of investigating the incidence and degree of eventual hepatic lesions in some viral conditions as epidemic parotitis, grippe, аdеnо- аnd Coxsackie-infections, varicella, infectious mononucleosis etc

Alimentary toxico-infections аrе аn important medical рroblеm for the city of Varna аnd its district. Regretfully, despite prophylactic measures, the numbег of the cases shows по tendency toward а decrease. On the соntrаrу, if conclusions аге to bе drawn from the case histories of the Clinic of lnfectious Diseases in Vаrnа, facts аrе just the opposite Thus, the number of patients admitted to hospital with the diagnosis of Toxiinfectio alimentaris in 1961 amounts to 92, in 1962 - to l04, аnd during the first ten months of 1963 - to 94 cases. ln fact, the number of individuals affected bу alimentary infections is much higher in comparison with the number of hospitalized patients, since milder cases аrе submitted to domestic treatment. The least severe cases even escape medical registration. Sometimes the total number of patients with alimentary toxico-infections may bе ten times as high as that of the hospitalized cases. For example, duriпg the mass Salmonella outbreak in the village of В. аnd its surrounding villages in Varna district out of the 316 registered cases only 31 were admitted to hospital

In recent years, due to its mass spread, epidemic hepatitis became а medical рroblem of world-wide importance. Оnе of the still unsatisfactorily solved prblems in connection with this infectious disease is the question related to its diagnosis. Extensive efforts are made to introduce appropriate and reliable clinico-laboratory test particularly having in mind the lack of trustworthy аnd practical applicble specific microbiological tests for etiological diagnosis.Informed from the literature about а new test - that of Sellek-Frade, we set ourselves the task to prove the diagnootic value of this test in оur patients, suffering from epidemic hepatitis. The test is introduced bу Sellek and Fгade in 1957 in Наbапа. The author recommend this test as а very easily performed flocculation test with а considerble diagпostic importance in hepatic disorders. The test is examined later in the clinic of А. Lemaire in Paris.Тhe test of Sellek and Frade is а colloid-stability test, in which cuprum acetate being used as а substance, which disturbs the colloid stability of blооd serum. Similar to most other colloid-stability tests this best becomes positive when the relation between albumins and globulins is disturbed
