    Get PDF
AbstractIn this paper, by applying two pairs of lower and upper solutions method and the topological degree theory of strict-set-contractions, the existence of at least three positive solutions to m-point boundary value problems for second order ordinary differential equations in Banach spaces is obtained

Thomson backscattering in combined two laser and magnetic field

The Thomson backscattering of an electron moving in combined fields is studied by a dynamically assisted mechanism. The combined fields are composed of two co-propagating laser fields and a magnetic field, where the first laser field is strong and low-frequency while the second is weak and high-frequency, relatively. The dependence of fundamental frequency of emission on the ratio of incident laser high-to-low frequency is presented and the spectrum of backscattering is obtained. It is found that, with a magnetic field, the peak of the spectrum and the corresponding radiation frequency are significantly larger in case of two-laser than that in case of only one laser. They are also improved obviously as the frequency of the weak laser field. Another finding is the nonlinear correlation between the emission intensity of the backscattering and the intensity of the weak laser field. These results provide a new possibility to adjust and control the spectrum by changing the ratios of frequency and intensity of the two laser fields.Comment: 13 pages, 4 figure

Recognition of Artificial Ripening Tomato and Nature Mature Tomato Based on the Double Parallel Genetic Neural Network

Abstract: In order to prevent artificial ripening tomato into markets to harm consumers' health, a double parallel genetic neural network identification system was designed. This system obtained tomato external color characteristic parameters (R, G, B) through the computer vision device and changed the RGB value into HIS value. Put tomato external color characteristic parameters as input, tomato maturity properties as output and verified the system with test samples. The test results show that, the correct recognition rate of the system is 93.8%, providing the reference for further research of artificial ripening tomato and natural mature tomato

Assessing the Option Value of Retrofitting a 200MW Power Plant to Oxyfuel CO2 Capture

    Get PDF
AbstractAn advantage of oxyfuel capture technology is the flexibility of capable of retrofitting existing conventional coal-fired power plants. This analysis investigates the option value of retrofitting a 200MW coal-fired power plant to Oxyfuel CO2 capture power plant. The initial retrofit option value is the theoretical financial value for pre- investment (Oxyfuel CO2 Capture Ready) to keep the oxyfuel CO2 capture retrofit option open. The study assumes carbon price (either carbon tax or carbon allowance market) is the only driver for oxyfuel CO2 capture retrofit decision and there are no other operational or investment options in the decision making process

Where to focus? Developing a LCA impact category selection tool for manufacturers of building materials

    Get PDF
Life cycle assessment (LCA) has been widely applied to improve the environmental performance of the building sector. However, due to the complexity of LCA results including the multitude of impact categories, decision makers of the building materials manufacturing industry are grappling with allocating their limited resources to the most influential impact categories. The aim of this article, therefore, is to propose an impact category selection tool that enables performance improvement of building materials without sacrificing the validity of LCA results. The developed method selects common building materials, and defines foreground processes that can be influenced by manufacturers of building materials and background processes that can hardly be impacted using the US Input-Output database. Following the life cycle impact assessment (LCIA) analysis with the ReCiPe2016 Midpoint method, our results indicate that, among the 18 impact categories of the ReCiPe2016 Midpoint method, Global Warming Potential, Ozone Formation and Human Health, Fine Particulate Matter Formation, Ozone Formation and Terrestrial Ecosystems, Terrestrial Acidification, and Terrestrial Ecotoxicity should be considered the first priority group while Ionizing Radiation, Freshwater Eutrophication, Marine Eutrophication, Freshwater Ecotoxicity, Water Consumption should be placed in the last priority group. It further suggests that by shifting the limited available resources to the first priority group, decision makers can readily improve the environmental performance of building materials during the manufacturing process. The contribution of the proposed selection tool lies in that it can be adapted by decision makers to different geographical contexts, LCIA methods, and building materials to efficiently ameliorate the environmental performance of the building sector
