The Face View of China and Foreign Countries under Cross-cultural Communication

    Get PDF
“MianZi” is something that everyone is pursuing, it is the combination of “Lian” and “Mian”. It refers to the psychological feeling that is obtained from the comments of others on our speech and behavior. "Having face" is the psychological feeling when one person obtains affirmation and praise, and “losing face” is the psychological feeling of suffering criticism or negation. “Lian” and” Mian” are quite different in their meanings. Pure face is beautiful and fascinating. It is just like a ordinary man, even though he looks very average, but when he is with a little decoration, a little powder, he looks charming at once. But in many times, there are always some people who want to win others' approval so that they can win face for themselves, so they do not hesitate to use improper means to achieve their personal goals, such faces are disgusting and rebarbative. The concept of “face” embodies people's values and relates to social morality. It should play an active role in promoting the harmonious development and stability of our society

Translation Standards and Strategies for Trademark Names of Cosmetics

    Get PDF
With the development of the society and the improvement of the people's living standard, people have gradually realized the importance of the external image while paying attention to the "inner beauty", so the cosmetics are becoming more and more popular. Proper brand name translation can not only bring consumers the feeling of beauty, but also enhance the brand level and promote products in the invisible way. This paper discusses the translation criteria and Strategies of cosmetic brand names, hoping to contribute to the development of this field

On Nominalization Metaphor and Its Discourse Function

    Get PDF
According to systematic-functional grammar, nominalization is an important source from which grammatical metaphor derives. Starting from the concept of nominalization, this paper, based on a great number of examples, attempts to discuss the following three issues: definition of nominalization; classification of nominalization and its discourse function, and points out that the use of nominalization can add objectivity, conciseness, precision, cohesion and coherence to English discourse

Image-Adaptive YOLO for Object Detection in Adverse Weather Conditions

Though deep learning-based object detection methods have achieved promising results on the conventional datasets, it is still challenging to locate objects from the low-quality images captured in adverse weather conditions. The existing methods either have difficulties in balancing the tasks of image enhancement and object detection, or often ignore the latent information beneficial for detection. To alleviate this problem, we propose a novel Image-Adaptive YOLO (IA-YOLO) framework, where each image can be adaptively enhanced for better detection performance. Specifically, a differentiable image processing (DIP) module is presented to take into account the adverse weather conditions for YOLO detector, whose parameters are predicted by a small convolutional neural net-work (CNN-PP). We learn CNN-PP and YOLOv3 jointly in an end-to-end fashion, which ensures that CNN-PP can learn an appropriate DIP to enhance the image for detection in a weakly supervised manner. Our proposed IA-YOLO approach can adaptively process images in both normal and adverse weather conditions. The experimental results are very encouraging, demonstrating the effectiveness of our proposed IA-YOLO method in both foggy and low-light scenarios.Comment: AAAI 2022, Preprint version with Appendi

Enhancing the Performance of Practical Profiling Side-Channel Attacks Using Conditional Generative Adversarial Networks

    Get PDF
Recently, many profiling side-channel attacks based on Machine Learning and Deep Learning have been proposed. Most of them focus on reducing the number of traces required for successful attacks by optimizing the modeling algorithms. In previous work, relatively sufficient traces need to be used for training a model. However, in the practical profiling phase, it is difficult or impossible to collect sufficient traces due to the constraint of various resources. In this case, the performance of profiling attacks is inefficient even if proper modeling algorithms are used. In this paper, the main problem we consider is how to conduct more efficient profiling attacks when sufficient profiling traces cannot be obtained. To deal with this problem, we first introduce the Conditional Generative Adversarial Network (CGAN) in the context of side-channel attacks. We show that CGAN can generate new traces to enlarge the size of the profiling set, which improves the performance of profiling attacks. For both unprotected and protected cryptographic algorithms, we find that CGAN can effectively learn the leakage of traces collected in their implementations. We also apply it to different modeling algorithms. In our experiments, the model constructed with the augmented profiling set can reduce the required attack traces by more than half, which means the generated traces can provide useful information as the real traces

A Novel Macroblock Level Rate Control Method for Stereo Video Coding

    Get PDF
To compress stereo video effectively, this paper proposes a novel macroblock (MB) level rate control method based on binocular perception. A binocular just-notification difference (BJND) model based on the parallax matching is first used to describe binocular perception. Then, the proposed rate control method is performed in stereo video coding with four levels, namely, view level, group-of-pictures (GOP) level, frame level, and MB level. In the view level, different proportions of bitrates are allocated for the left and right views of stereo video according to the prestatistical rate allocation proportion. In the GOP level, the total number of bitrates allocated to each GOP is computed and the initial quantization parameter of each GOP is set. In the frame level, the target bits allocated to each frame are computed. In the MB level, visual perception factor, which is measured by the BJND value of MB, is used to adjust the MB level bit allocation, so that the rate control results in line with the human visual characteristics. Experimental results show that the proposed method can control the bitrate more accurately and get better subjective quality of stereo video, compared with other methods

    Kindlin-1 regulates keratinocyte electrotaxis

    Get PDF
Kindler syndrome (KS) is an autosomal recessive blistering skin disease resulting from pathogenic mutations in FERMT1. This gene encodes kindlin-1, a focal adhesion protein involved in activation of the integrin family of extracellular matrix receptors. Most cases of KS show a marked reduction or complete absence of the kindlin-1 protein in keratinocytes, resulting in defective cell adhesion and migration. Electric fields also act as intrinsic regulators of adhesion and migration in the skin, but the molecular mechanisms by which this occurs are poorly understood. Here we show that keratinocytes derived from KS patients are unable to undergo electrotaxis, and this defect is restored by overexpression of wild-type kindlin-1 but not a W612A mutation that prevents kindlin-integrin binding. Moreover, deletion of the pleckstrin homology domain of kindlin-1 also failed to rescue electrotaxis in KS cells, indicating that both integrin and lipid binding are required for this function. Kindlin-1 was also required for the maintenance of lamellipodial protrusions during electrotaxis via electric field-activated β1 integrin. Indeed, inhibition of β1 integrins also leads to loss of electrotaxis in keratinocytes. Our data suggest that loss of kindlin-1 function may therefore result in epithelial insensitivity to electric fields and contribute to KS disease pathology
