    Manipulating dc currents with bilayer bulk natural materials

    The principle of transformation optics has been applied to various wave phenomena (e.g., optics, electromagnetics, acoustics and thermodynamics). Recently, metamaterial devices manipulating dc currents have received increasing attention which usually adopted the analogue of transformation optics using complicated resistor networks to mimic the inhomogeneous and anisotropic conductivities. We propose a distinct and general principle of manipulating dc currents by directly solving electric conduction equations, which only needs to utilize two layers of bulk natural materials. We experimentally demonstrate dc bilayer cloak and fan-shaped concentrator, derived from the generalized account for cloaking sensor. The proposed schemes have been validated as exact devices and this opens a facile way towards complete spatial control of dc currents. The proposed schemes may have vast potentials in various applications not only in dc, but also in other fields of manipulating magnetic field, thermal heat, elastic mechanics, and matter waves

    Kent Ridge 1 - a hyper spectral micro satellite to aid disaster relieve

    Recent advances in Singapore based R&D in the field of Fourier transform recovery (FTR) enable micro satellites to carry hyper spectral payloads that work simultaneously in the VNIR (400-900) and SWIR (900-1700nm) bands. This will open path to multitudes of new applications in the monitoring of land, water & vegetation and thus will be useful to contribute towards the effort to prevent and manage such disasters in this region. The first satellite to carry a hyper spectral imager based on the FTR method is the Kent Ridge 1 satellite that is currently build as a collaboration between National University of Singapore and Berlin Space Technologies GmbH. The 80kg Kent Ridge 1 is based on the LEOS-50 platform of BST that has been upgraded to fit the specific needs of this mission such high internal data rate (2.2Gbit/s) and high speed data transmitter (100Mbit/s). Kent Ridge 1 is scheduled for launch in Q4 2015 will be flying in a near equatorial orbit of 550km altitude with around 15° inclination. This orbit has the added benefit of fast repeat cycles over the area a desired feature in disaster mitigation

    Asset growth and the cross-section of stock returns : evidence from Japan.

    We test and observe in Japan‟s context a negative correlative between asset growth and abnormal returns. Contrary to previous research by Cooper, Gulen and Schill (2008), we do not observe significant alpha returns upon dividing sample firms into three categories based on market capitalization. Furthermore, the Fama and Macbeth (1973) regression is used to test if asset growth exhibits the same significance and dominance as a strong predictor in explaining the variability of stock returns. The predictive effects of asset growth shown in the US equity markets produce contrasting results when we conduct it in the Japan equity markets.BUSINES

    Contour Based Path Planning with B-Spline Trajectory Generation for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) over Hostile Terrain

    This research focuses on trajectory generation algorithms that take into account the stealthiness of autonomous UAVs; generating stealthy paths through a region laden with enemy radars. The algorithm is employed to estimate the risk cost of the navigational space and generate an optimized path based on the user-specified threshold altitude value. Thus the generated path is represented with a set of low-radar risk waypoints being the coordinates of its control points. The radar-aware path planner is then approximated using cubic B-splines by considering the least radar risk to the destination. Simulated results are presented, illustrating the potential benefits of such algorithms
