Focused ultrasound-enabled brain tumor liquid biopsy

Abstract Although blood-based liquid biopsies have emerged as a promising non-invasive method to detect biomarkers in various cancers, limited progress has been made for brain tumors. One major obstacle is the blood-brain barrier (BBB), which hinders efficient passage of tumor biomarkers into the peripheral circulation. The objective of this study was to determine whether FUS in combination with microbubbles can enhance the release of biomarkers from the brain tumor to the blood circulation. Two glioblastoma tumor models (U87 and GL261), developed by intracranial injection of respective enhanced green fluorescent protein (eGFP)-transduced glioblastoma cells, were treated by FUS in the presence of systemically injected microbubbles. Effect of FUS on plasma eGFP mRNA levels was determined using quantitative polymerase chain reaction. eGFP mRNA were only detectable in the FUS-treated U87 mice and undetectable in the untreated U87 mice (maximum cycle number set to 40). This finding was replicated in GL261 mice across three different acoustic pressures. The circulating levels of eGFP mRNA were 1,500–4,800 fold higher in the FUS-treated GL261 mice than that of the untreated mice for the three acoustic pressures. This study demonstrated the feasibility of FUS-enabled brain tumor liquid biopsies in two different murine glioma models across different acoustic pressures

Imprints of Sagittarius accretion event: Young O-rich stars and discontinuous chemical evolution in Milky Way disc

The Milky Way has undergone significant transformations in its early history, characterised by violent mergers and the accretion of satellite galaxies. Among these events, the infall of the satellite galaxy Gaia-Enceladus/Sausage is recognised as the last major merger event, fundamentally altering the evolution of the Milky Way and shaping its chemo-dynamical structure. However, recent observational evidence suggests that the Milky Way remains undergone notable events of star formation in the past 4 Gyr, which is thought to be triggered by the perturbations from Sagittarius dwarf galaxy (Sgr). Here we report chemical signatures of the Sgr accretion event in the past 4 Gyr, using the [Fe/H] and [O/Fe] ratios in the thin disc, which is reported for the first time. It reveals that the previously discovered V-shape structure of age-[Fe/H] relation varies across different Galactic locations and has rich substructures. Interestingly, we discover a discontinuous structure at zmax_{\rm max} << 0.3 kpc, interrupted by a recent burst of star formation from 4 Gyr to 2 Gyr ago. In this episode, we find a significant rise in oxygen abundance leading to a distinct [O/Fe] gradient, contributing to the formation of young O-rich stars. Combined with the simulated star formation history and chemical abundance of Sgr, we suggest that the Sgr is an important actor in the discontinuous chemical evolution of the Milky Way disc.Comment: 17 pages, 15 figures. A Novel Adaptive H-Infinity Cubature Kalman Filter Algorithm Based on Sage-Husa Estimator for Unmanned Underwater Vehicle

In the navigation of unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV), a filtering algorithm suitable for the working conditions is required. Due to the disturbance from the environment and maneuverability, outliers and noise with time-varying statistical properties always exist, which greatly affect the positioning accuracy and stability of the navigation system. In this paper, we present a novel nonlinear state estimation algorithm named AH∞CKF based on the combination of H∞CKF and Sage-Husa estimator. The recently developed H∞CKF provides nonlinear filtering good robustness, and Sage-Husa estimator could timely modify the statistical properties of noise. The novel algorithm is superior to H∞CKF in accuracy by combining Sage-Husa estimator with the H∞CKF while ensuring robustness. The effectiveness of the novel AH∞CKF is verified by lake experiment and simulation

A New Centroid-Based Classifier for Text Categorization

Conference Name:22nd International Workshops on Advanced Information Networking and Applications. Conference Address: Ginowan, JAPAN. Time:MAR 25-28, 2008.In recent years, centroid-based document classifiers receive wide interests from text mining community because of their simplicity and linear-time complexity. However the traditional centroid-based classifiers ususally perform less effectively for Chinese text categorization. In this paper we tackle the problem by developping a new way to calculate the class-specific weights for each term in the training phase; in the testing phase, the new documents are assigned to the centroid to which the document is most similar based on the weighted distance measurement. The experimental results demonstrate that the accuracy of our algorithm outperforms the traditional centroid-based classifiers, as well as outstanding efficiency compared with the Support Vector Machine (SVM) based classifers for Chinese text categorization
