Group-Theoretic Evidence for SO(10) Grand Unification
The hypercharges of the fermions are not uniquely determined in SO(10) grand
unification, but rather depend upon which linear combination of the two U(1)
subgroups of SO(10) > SU(3) X SU(2) X U(1) X U(1) remains unbroken. We show
that, in general, a given hypercharge assignment can be obtained only with very
high-dimensional Higgs representations. The observation that the standard model
is obtained with low-dimensional Higgs representations can therefore be
regarded as further evidence for SO(10) grand unification. This evidence is
independent of the fact that SO(10) > SU(5).Comment: 6 pages, Late

We use an effective-field-theory approach to construct models with naturally
light sterile neutrinos, due to either exact or accidental global symmetries.
The most attractive models we find are based on gauge symmetries, either
discrete or continuous. We give examples of simple models based on Z_N, U(1)',

Production of a Z boson and two jets with one heavy-quark tag
We present a next-to-leading-order calculation of the production of a Z boson
with two jets, one or more of which contains a heavy quark (Q=c,b). We show
that the cross section with only one heavy-quark jet is larger than that with
two heavy-quark jets at both the Fermilab Tevatron and the CERN LHC. These
processes are the dominant irreducible backgrounds to a Higgs boson produced in
association with a Z boson, followed by h->bb. Our calculation makes use of a
heavy-quark distribution function, which resums collinear logarithms and makes

Constraints on Non-standard Top Quark Couplings
We study non-standard top quark couplings in the effective field theory
approach. All nine dimension-six operators that generate anomalous couplings
between the electroweak gauge bosons and the third-generation quarks are
included. We calculate their contributions at tree level and one loop to all
major precision electroweak observables. The calculations are compared with
data to obtain constraints on eight of these operators.Comment: 26 pages, 2 figure
Associated Production of a W Boson and One b Jet
We calculate the production of a W boson and a single b jet to
next-to-leading order in QCD at the Fermilab Tevatron and the CERN Large Hadron
Collider. Both exclusive and inclusive cross sections are presented. We
separately consider the cross section for jets containing a single b quark and
jets containing a b-anti b pair. There are a wide variety of processes that
contribute, and it is necessary to include them all in order to have a complete
