Global analysis of eeqq contact interactions and future prospects for high energy physics

    No full text
Data from HERA, LEP and the Tevatron, as well as from low energy experiments are used to constrain the scale of possible electron-quark contact interactions. Different models are considered, including the most general one, in which all new couplings can vary independently. Limits on couplings and mass scales are extracted and upper limits on possible effects to be observed in future HERA, LEP and Tevatron running are estimated. Total hadronic cross-section at LEP and e"-p scattering cross-section at HERA are strongly constrained by existing data, whereas large cross-section deviations are still possible for Drell-Yan lepton pair production at the Tevatron. Fast simulation of longitudinal hadron shower profiles in the ZEUS calorimeter

    No full text
An algorithm for fast simulation of hadronic showers in the uranium-scintillator calorimeter is presented. The program is based on an analysis of the WA78 calorimeter test data. Through fluctuations of the mean shower profile the energy deposits in the calorimeter modules and the energy correlations between the modules are well reproduced. The program was prepared to study effects of longitudinal energy leakage in the ZEUS experiment. Inclusive properties of diffractive and non-diffractive photoproduction at HERA

    No full text
Inclusive properties of photoproduction at the centre of mass (c.m.) energy of W #approx# 200 GeV were studied at HERA using the ZEUS detector. The transverse momentum distributions of charged particles produced in the region of the photon fragmentation were measured in non diffractive and diffractive reactions. The non diffractive photoproduction spectrum is very similar to that in hadron hadron collisions at the same c.m. energy in the low p_T region but is significantly harder at higher p_T. The inclusive photoproduction spectrum agrees with the results of a next to leading order QCD calculation. For diffractive reactions, the p_T spectra of the photon dissociation events were measured in two intervals of the dissociated photon mass with mean values left angle M_X right angle = 5 GeV and 10 GeV. In comparison with hadron hadron data the results indicate close similarities between the dissociation of photons and hadrons. For the diffractive reactions the distribution of the dissociated photon mass in the interval 8 < M_X < 21 GeV was also measured. The shape of the spectrum can be described with the triple pomeron Regge model with the pomeron intercept of a_p(0) = 1.14 #+-# 0.04(stat) #+-# 0.08(syst). Decay properties of very neutron-deficient isotopes of silver and cadmium

    No full text
The #beta#-decay properties of the lightest known silver and cadmium isotopes are investigated. Data for #beta#-delayed #gamma#-ray emission of "9"5"-"9"7Ag and for #beta#-delayed proton emission of "9"6Ag and "9"7Cd are presented. The experimental findings are compared with predictions of shell-model calculations in which a variety of model spaces and effective interactions are considered. First evidence for the two-proton of "4"5Fe

    No full text
Decays of five "4"5Fe atoms have been observed at the Fragment Separator of GSI. Whereas one event is consistent with #beta# decay of "4"5Fe accompanied by the emission of a 10 MeV proton, four decays are consistent with the emission of particle(s) of total energy of 1.1 #+-# 0.1 MeV. This observation represents the first evidence for two-proton ground state radioactivity, a decay mode predicted for "4"5Fe. The time distribution of the observed decay events corresponds to a half-life of 3.2_-_1_._0"+"2"."6 ms.
