On fundamental mechanisms in dye sensitized solar cells through the behaviour of different mesoporous titanium dioxide films
Understanding mechanisms in DSSCs is fundamental for their improvement; this
includes the nanocrystalline semiconducting layer behaviour. Different
mesoporous TiO2 layers are fabricated and analyzed for possible use in DSSC
solar cells. The preparations included the addition of P123 triblock copolymer
as structuring agent to the synthesized anatase sol. This preparation was also
mixed with Degussa P25 nanoparticles in one case and polystyrene latex in
another. Mesoporous mixed TiO2-SiO2 thin layers were also analyzed. The diverse
morphology and features are studied by microscopic techniques and by means of
spectral quantum efficiency of a photoelectrochemical cell (PEC) that uses as
photoelectrode the unsensitized porous TiO\_2 layer. Contact angle measurements
are also performed. We have found that a very high specific area due to very
small nanocrystals and small pores can hinder electrolyte penetration in the
pores formed by TiO\_2 nanograins, affecting photoelectrodes efficiency
Geometrias do corpo: entre o Butô e a arquitetura
This article aims to develop a counterpoint between the notions of body and spatiality traditionally present in architecture and urban planning and those observed in dance, in particular Butoh ballet. On this purpose, we analyze the forms of representation, the morphology and history of classical architecture, purposing the concepts of bodyspace and spacetime in the work of Min Tanaka and in Butoh dance in general. From this comparison, we intend to understand new possibilities and definitions of perception and interaction between space and body in movement and architectural planning. Neuro-cardiac interaction in malignant ventricular arrhythmia and sudden cardiac death
Sudden cardiac death as a result of lethal ventricular arrhythmias is a major cause of death in cardiac diseases such as heart failure and prior myocardial infarct. Activity of the autonomic nervous system is often abnormal where sympathetic activity is upregulated and vagal activity reduced in these conditions. The abnormal autonomic state has been shown to be a strong prognostic marker of increased mortality and propensity to lethal arrhythmias, for which there is no effective prevention. Research effort over the years has established good evidence for a causal link between autonomic disturbance and ventricular arrhythmias. However, the detailed electrophysiological mechanisms by which ventricular fibrillation occurs are still not clear and molecular processes which are modulated by autonomic nerve influences that either predispose the heart to or protect it from these arrhythmias are not fully understood. This review presents data from studies investigating the link between activity of the autonomic nervous system and ventricular arrhythmias, from seminal findings in classical studies to ongoing investigations, in the quest for a better understanding of the arrhythmogenic mechanisms underlying neurocardiac interactions with a view to the development of effective preventative and therapeutic strategies which are very much needed
