Adaptation and Resilience of Interdependent Infrastructure Systems: a Complex Systems Perspective
The effects of disruption upon one or more components in interdependent infrastructure systems and the ability of
the system to return to normal operations, is investigated in this paper. This addresses the concept of resilience, and
examines the trade-off between redundancy and efficiency, as well as the adaptive ability of a system to respond to
disruptions and continue to operate, albeit not necessarily as it did initially
A new approach of analyzing GRB light curves
We estimated the Txx quantiles of the cumulative GRB light curves using our
recalculated background. The basic information of the light curves was
extracted by multivariate statistical methods. The possible classes of the
light curves are also briefly discussed.Comment: 4 pages, 8 figure
The Transformation of Hungarian Production Cooperatives and Future Consequences
This research examines the transformation of Hungarian agricultural production cooperatives. In contrast to early expectations, cooperatives did not experience much membership loss. Rather, the enterprises held together, although they downsized. The distribution of collective assets occurred quickly and created much tension. The sector experienced a severe decapitalization, and the efficiency of the sector fell. There was a sharp rise in unemployment. Sales and marketing were disrupted. Thus, the cooperatives transformed in a very hostile situation. They survived, and some prospered, yet, in general, they remain vulnerable to adverse economic developments. Healthy cooperatives will be vital to the success of smaller private farms.Agribusiness,
