Parametric instability in a magnomechanical system
We study parametric instability in a magnomechanical system, specifically
examining magnon tunneling between moving ferromagnetic insulators. Our
analysis reveals that quantum fluctuations generate spin currents above a
critical velocity threshold, while no spin currents occur below this threshold
at low temperatures. The critical velocity depends on magnon stiffness and
Zeeman energy. Approaching the threshold, the spin current becomes divergent,
linked to the PT-symmetry-breaking transition. This enhanced behavior could
offer sensitive measurements and signal amplification in quantum technology.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Helical dichroism for hybridized quadrupole plasmon modes in twisted metal nanorods
Helical dichroism (HD), based on the interaction between chiral plasmonic
nanostructures and light with orbital angular momentum (OAM), has attracted
researchers in a wide range of fields from the viewpoint of fundamental physics
and applications. However, the relation between the HD and the excited plasmon
modes has been poorly understood in experiments. Because of the weak chiral
interaction between the chiral structures and OAM light, the structure size
must be much larger than the incident light wavelength to obtain sufficient HD
signal, resulting in the complex superposition of higher-order plasmon modes.
Recently, we experimentally demonstrated that a twisted gold nanorod dimer, one
of the simplest 3D chiral plasmonic structures, exhibits giant circular
dichroism due to strong plasmon coupling between the nanorods, followed by the
hybridization of dipole mode. In this study, we reveal that the HD of this
nanorod dimer appears due to the hybridization of quadrupole plasmon mode
rather than dipole mode. Furthermore, the measurement of the HD signal can be
achieved by using the array of the twisted dimers. The dependence of the HD on
the incident light wavelength exhibits that the HD sign changes around the
quadrupole plasmon resonance, which is in good agreement with the simulation.
These results pave the way to novel insights into the profound understanding of
the light-matter interaction with respect to angular momentum.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figure
Interaction induced AC-Stark shift of exciton-polaron resonances
Laser induced shift of atomic states due to the AC-Stark effect has played a
central role in cold-atom physics and facilitated their emergence as analog
quantum simulators. Here, we explore this phenomena in an atomically thin layer
of semiconductor MoSe, which we embedded in a heterostructure enabling
charge tunability. Shining an intense pump laser with a small detuning from the
material resonances, we generate a large population of virtual collective
excitations, and achieve a regime where interactions with this background
population is the leading contribution to the AC-Stark shift. Using this
technique we study how itinerant charges modify -- and dramatically enhance --
the interactions between optical excitations. In particular, our experiments
show that the interaction between attractive polarons could be two orders of
magnitude stronger than those between bare excitons
A Cluster of Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infections in a Hospital Ward for Adult Immunocompromised Patients
Four male patients admitted to the same ward in the first half of September 201Y were identified to have respiratory syncytial virus(RSV)infection. Their ages ranged from 49 to 85 years(median 72.5). One patient was infected with human immunodeficiency virus and three patients had hematological malignancies. Following immuno-chromatological testing with a nasal cavity swab, RSV infection was diagnosed. Although blood and sputum cultures were performed in three patients, no significant bacteria were detected. Two cases responded to supportive therapy. However, one patient died secondary to multiple myeloma, and another patient developed pneumonia and died with an exacerbation of leukemia. RSV infections in immunocompromised hosts are associated with a poor prognosis. Early diagnosis will facilitate isolation of infected individuals to prevent hospital outbreaks
