    SOLL-Spezifikation aus Sicht der Sicherheit

This report is part of the complex case study HDMS-A, which was done in the KORSO-Project to investigate the algebraic methods for software engineering. HDMS-A is an abstraction of a heterogeneous distributed information management system (HDMS), which is going to be implemented by the PMI"2 for the German Heartdisease Centre in Berlin (DHZB). There exists a complete system analysis [EHK"+89] for this medical information system. In the abstraction the modelling was reduced to several medical documents and reports and some of the courses of events. Principal types for object-oriented languages

    No full text
Object-oriented languages can be translated into a #lambda#-calculus with records. Therefore, type inference for record languages is one aspect of the yet unsolved problem of inferring types for object-oriented languages. In order to obtain the necessary flexibility for such a type system, we can either introduce a general subtyping notion or use extensible record types. Subtyping, especially in combination with imperative features, poses many hard problems. Therefore, the second approach is promising. The problem is that, in previous type inference systems that used extensible record types, principal types could not be inferred. We have found that, for an object-oriented language where classes are not first-class citizens, we could greatly simplify the underlying record language. We show that, for our simple record language, there exists a type inference algorithm that infers principal types. Phasenkonjugation. Erzeugung phasenkonjugierter Wellenfronten im Ultravioletten in photorefraktiven Kristallen Kristallzucht von BBO. Abschlussbericht

This joint project was dedicated to investigations into optical phase conjugation. Emphasis was placed on the development of new solutions to different practical laser technology and laser optics problems, e.g. aberration correction, lenseless, high-resolution beam forming and tracing, speckle suppression, and coherent beam concentration. The subproject under review investigates approaches and describes materials (BBO, Li_2B_4O_7, LiNbO_3) which allow one to apply the conventional phase conjugation techniques to photorefractive crystals in the ultraviolet spectral range. A verification of extensible record types

In the strive for more flexible type checkers, Remy and Wand proposed flexible record types in order to avoid the complications involved with subtyping. We formalize their approach in the framework of order-sorted logic. R, the considered language of records, is so simple that the type inference algorithm can be expressed as a constraint solver in first-order logic. We specify expressions and types, give an effective method for finding a typing, and state soundness results. R can be the basis of type inference for object-oriented programming languages. Multiple discourse relations on the sentential level in Japanese

    No full text
In the spoken language machine translation project Verbmobil, the semantic formalism Language for Underspecified Discourse representation structures (LUD) is used. LUD describes a number of DRSs and allows for underspecification of scopal ambiguities. Dealing with Japanese-to-English translation besides German-to-English poses challenging problems. In this paper, a treatment of multiple discourse relation constructions on the sentential level is discussed. These are common in Japanese but cause a problem for the formalism. It is shown that the underspecification is to be represented for them, too. Additionally, it is possible to state a semantic constraint on the resolution of multiple discourse relations which seems to prevail over the syntactic c-command constraint. A model for robust processing of spontaneous speech by integrating viable fragments

    No full text
We describe the design and function of a robust processing component which is being developed for the Verbmobil speech translation system. Its task consists of collecting partial analyses of an input utterance produced by three parsers and attempting to combine them into more meaningful, larger units. It is used as a fallback mechanism in cases where no complete analysis spanning the whole input can be achieved, owing to spontaneous speech phenomena or speech recognition errors. The role of semantics in spoken dialogue translation systems

    No full text
In this paper, we consider the role of semantics in the spoken dialogue translation systems. We begin by looking at some of the key properties of an existing spoken dialogue system, namely the SUNDIAL system which provides flight and train information over the telephone, and how these properties affect the design methodology and functionality of spoken tanslation systems. These properties include the effects of speech processing, designing the system to meet the needs of users, and an analysis model which clearly separates the linguistic, conceptual, pragmatic and task levels. In this model many task functionalities are dependent upon, and sometimes realizable by, the semantic and pragmatic analysis components. Central to this approach, is the use of underspecified semantic representations which are further specified as and when required by domain and/or task analysis. This model can be applied in the development of spoken translation systems with two important effects: monolingual semantic and pragmatic analysis can be carried out by processes independent of, but correlated with, the (translation) function of the system; and the main functions of the transfer processes is to further specifying the representations for the target language and to deal with mismatches between source and target language representations. We illustrate this approach with semantic analyses of German utterances required for translation in the Verbmobil spoken dialogue translation system.
