Performing Near Field Acoustic Holography Scans for the Purpose of Finding the Acoustic Impedance of a Violin

    Get PDF
This project aimed to measure the acoustic impedance of the violin so that the violin can be better understood from an acoustic standpoint. Near field acoustic holography scans are to be conducted at the open A string resonance of the violin (440 Hz). Pressure microphones along the back plate of the violin allow pressure and particle velocity to be measured, and with that, the acoustic impedance to be calculated and mapped in 1 cm x 1cm increments. This work presents a guide for this procedure. The set-up method and materials used are detailed and the analysis and computations of values are described in the presentation

Searching for Truth, Searching for Feeling

History is not only found in textbooks. Historical fiction often utilizes depictions of historical events as a backdrop or plot device for a fictional story, and for many people, this is their only exposure to certain periods or events in the past. This essay looks at the validity of using fiction as historical evidence by analyzing Hans Fallada’s Every Man Dies Alone portrayal of German life in World War II and comparing it to academic sources. It argues that a novel evokes empathy by juxtaposing an imagined story alongside historical facts; however, the fictional account can also create a false idea of the reality of these historical events. The essay explores the implications of simplifying reality, the humanization of facts, and the influences these effects have on the reader

Altering the Meaning of Remembrance: The Influence of Resurgent Nazi Perpetrators on the Jewish Museum Berlin

This visual exhibit looks at various images of the Jewish Museum Berlin and the effects resurgent neo-Nazis had on its design. After 1989, the building saw alterations to its interpretation and the architect Daniel Libeskind\u27s design due to a lack of funding because of reunification, political power gained by the right-wing parties, and xenophobia towards Jewish people and foreign workers. It evolved from a Cold War project meant to represent Berlin and Berlin Jewish history both distinctly and integrally to a symbol of reunited Germany that showcased the continual and persistent victimization of the Jewish people
