Managed Precision Clock and RF Signal Distribution over Custom RF-backplane in MTCA.4 Crate

    No full text
Low Level RF and beam diagnostic systems require low jitter clock and low noise RF signaldistribution. To fulfill their requirements a custom RF backplane and a new version of RTMhas been developed. To provide hot-swap functionality an IPMI controller has been extendedto support e-keying functionality for the custom backplane. The presented system is fullycompatible with MTCA.4. Details of a design and an example application are presented

RF Backplane for MTCA.4-Based LLRF Control System

    No full text
Low-level RF (LLRF) control systems developed for linear accelerator-based free electron lasers (FELs) require realtime processing of thousands of RF signals with very challenging RF field detection precision. To provide a reliable, maintainable, and scalable system, a new generation of LLRF control based on MTCA.4 architecturewas started atDESY for the FLASH and European- XFEL facilities. In contrast to previous RF control systems realized in 19-in modules, we could demonstrate field detection, RF generation, RF distribution, DAQ system, and the high-speed realtime processing entirely embedded in the MTCA.4 crate system. This unique scheme embeds ultra-high-precision analog electronics for detection on the rear transition module (RTM) with powerfuldigital processing units on the advancedmezzanine card (AMC).To increase system reliability and maintainability and to reduce performance limitations arising throughRF cabling,we developed and embedded in the MTCA.4 crate, a unique RF backplane for RTMcards. This backplane is used for distribution of high-performance local oscillator (LO), RF, and low-jitter clock signals together withlow-noise analog power supply to analog RTM cards in the system. In this paper, we present the design and architecture of theMTCA.4 crate with the RF backplane and successful test results of the LLRFcontrol system

Design and Simulation of FPGA Implementation of RF Control System for Tesla Test Facility

    No full text
This paper presents a new FPGA based solution of the Low Level RF Control System for the TESLA Test Facility. The LLRF Control System is responsible for maintaining the constant amplitude and phase of accelerating field in the cavities in the accelerator's cryomodules driven by single klystron (up to 32 cavities). To obtain shorter processing time and less complicated hardware an FPGA based solution was selected. The proposed simulation has been simulated in software, and appeared to be faster and less complex than DSP based solutions
