Predictions Regarding the Evolution Of Archiving Documents Generated by Business Entities

    Get PDF
The documents of any organization are created, modified, distributed through various routes, archived, accessed, re-delivered, re-archived. Taking into account that during the last few years the legislative framework regulating the record, inventory, selection, maintenance and use of archives was issued, according to the European regulations the companies are faced with some problems related to knowledge of the legal regulations in effect regarding archiving documents; methods of registering, recording, archiving and accessing the documents; predicting the evolution of the amounts of documents to be archived; predicting the space necessary for storing the archive; supervision of the archive and handling of the archive. The purpose of this article is to support business entities in order to resolve these issues; to determine the amount of archive for a given time period (n), and to estimate the appropriate archiving space.mathematical models, management, data estimation

Evolutionary Computation in High Energy Physics

    Get PDF
Evolutionary Computation is a branch of computer science with which, traditionally, High Energy Physics has fewer connections. Its methods were investigated in this field, mainly for data analysis tasks. These methods and studies are, however, less known in the high energy physics community and this motivated us to prepare this lecture. The lecture presents a general overview of the main types of algorithms based on Evolutionary Computation, as well as a review of their applications in High Energy Physics.Comment: Lecture presented at 2006 Inverted CERN School of Computing; to be published in the school proceedings (CERN Yellow Report

Gene expression programming approach to event selection in high energy physics

    Get PDF
Gene Expression Programming is a new evolutionary algorithm that overcomes many limitations of the more established Genetic Algorithms and Genetic Programming. Its first application to high energy physics data analysis is presented. The algorithm was successfully used for event selection on samples with both low and high background level. It allowed automatic identification of selection rules that can be interpreted as cuts applied on the input variables. The signal/background classification accuracy was over 90% in all cases

    The Epistemology of Alvin Plantinga

    Get PDF
In this article we intend to present Alvin Plantinga’s epistemology by showing the way in which its central concepts: the Reidian foundationalism, the partial critique of evidentialism, warrant, proper function, reliability and externalism - are logically interrelated. A section of this article is reserved to the critiques of his account of warrant brought by Peter Klein and Richard Feldman and to the way in which Plantinga answered them, by developing the concepts of cognitive maxi- and mini-environment. In the end we will see the way in which Plantinga’s epistemology relates to both modernism and postmodernism
