Dependence of a self-assembled amphiphile structure on the interaction between hydrophilic groups
In a previous study (2005 Comput. Phys. Commun. 169, 139?143), we clarified the dependence of the phase structure on the hydrophilicity of an amphiphilic molecule by varying the interaction potential between the hydrophilic molecule and water (a_AW) in a dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) simulation using the Jury model. In the present paper, we perform another DPD simulation using the previous model to investigate the dependence of the interaction potential between adjacent hydrophilic groups on the phase structure. By varying the coefficient of the interaction potential between adjacent hydrophilic groups a_AA (a_AA = 15, 25, 40 and 250) at a dimensionless temperature of T = 0.5 and a concentration of amphiphilic molecules in water of φ = 50%, hexagonal (a_AA = 14, 25, 40) and micellar (a_AA = 250) phases were observed. In comparison with the previous results, the dependence of the A?B dimer’s shape on a_AA was determined to be weaker than that on a_AW. Therefore, it is concluded that the solvent waterWplays an important role in aggregation of the A?B dimers

In a previous study, dissipative particle dynamics simulation was used to
qualitatively clarify the phase diagram of the amphiphilic molecule
hexaethylene glycol dodecyl ether (C12E6). In the present study, the
hydrophilicity dependence of the phase structure was clarified qualitatively by
varying the interaction potential between hydrophilic molecules and water
molecules in a dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) simulation using the Jury
model. By varying the coefficient of the interaction potential between
hydrophilic beads and water molecules as x=-20, 0, 10, and 20, at a
dimensionless temperature of T=0.5 and a concentration of amphiphilic molecules
in water of phi=50% the phase structures grew to lamellar (x=-20), hexagonal
(x=0), and micellar (x=10) phases. For x=20, phase separation occurs between
hydrophilic beads and water molecules
Development of Mathematics Lesson Using Kahoot! as a Transformation of the Lesson through EdTech
In this study, we analyzed a case study of ICT use in a mathematics department in Singapore from a subject-specific perspective that deepens students' learning, such as adaptive learning. Based on the suggestions obtained from this study, we developed lessons using Kahoot! in Japanese mathematics classes. Superoxide Anion Radical Scavenging Activities of Herbs and Pastures in Northern Japan Determined Using Electron Spin Resonance Spectrometry
Free radicals are not only destructive to the living cells but also reduce the quality of animal products through oxidation. As a result the superoxide anion radical (O2・-), one of the most destructive reactive oxygen species, is a matter of concern for the animal scientists as well as feed manufacturers to ensure the quality of product to reach consumers demand. The superoxide anion radical scavenging activities (SOSA) of water and MeOH extracts of 2 herbs and 9 pasture samples collected from lowland and highland swards were determined against a 5,5-dimethyl-1-pyroline-N-oxide-O2・-spin adduct based on a hypoxanthine-xanthine oxidase reaction using electron spin resonance spectrometry. Both the water and MeOH extracted SOSA differed among the herbs and pastures. Species and altitudinal variations were observed between extraction methods. The herbs were higher in both water and MeOH extracted SOSA than the pastures except for water extracts of one pasture, white clover (Trifolium repens L.). Among the pastures, quackgrass (Agrophyron repens L.) showed higher SOSA in both the MeOH and water extracts, and timothy (Phleum pretense L.) showed higher MeOH extracted SOSA. It is apparent that the kind and amount of antioxidants differ among herbs and pastures. Animal health and quality of animal products could be improved by adequate selection and combining of herbs and pastures having higher SOSA
Changes in qualities and abilities of Japanese teachers through participation in Global Lesson Study on mathematics
[Purpose] The authors aim to determine the effects of Global Lesson Study (GLS) - a two-year, one-cycle program defined as “international cooperative lesson study through international exchange among teachers using ICT” - on intercultural competence for lesson study based on pre- and post-survey conducted for Japanese teachers. [Design/methodology/approach] In accordance with the GLS program, mathematics lesson studies on mathematics between Japanese and Singaporean elementary school teachers were conducted over a two-year period. Questionnaire surveys on intercultural competence for lesson study was conducted using 7-point Likert scale and descriptive questions with Japanese teachers (N 5 5). Analysis of Wilcoxon’s signed rank test and correlation analysis were conducted. [Findings] Followings are identified as the effects of GLS for Japanese teachers: (1) Japanese participants felt improvement of their competence in areas of attitude, internal outcomes and outward impact. (2) Participating in a GLS led to the improvement of Japanese teachers’ qualities and abilities for subject teaching related tomathematics education. (3) Improvement of intercultural competence for lesson study was related to each other, and GLS led to improvement of these competences. (4) It was meaningful to have a two-year period to assimilate and adjust to independent experience of the host and guest. [Originality/value] The GLS led to teacher empowerment among this sample, not only as cooperative research, but also at the individual level of teachers where participants continued to develop lessons based on the GLS learning after study completion. This has important implications for the implementation and dissemination of the GLS

Characteristics of systolic and diastolic potentials recorded in the left interventricular septum in verapamil-sensitive left ventricular tachycardia
We studied the electrophysiological characteristics of systolic (SP) and diastolic (DP) potentials recorded during sinus rhythm (SR) in the left interventricular septum of a 27 year-old woman presenting with verapamil-sensitive idiopathic left ventricular tachycardia (VT). During SR, and during VT, SP was activated from ventricular base-to-apex, and DP from apex-to-base. SP and DP were both detected at the site of successful ablation during SR, whereas during VT, DP was detected away from the earliest activation site. Thus, SP apparently reflected a critical component of the reentrant circuit, while DP reflected the activation of a bystander pathway
