Malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) arising in the lung of an autopsy case, a 52-year-old man, is reported with immunohistochemical findings. In most areas, a storiform patterns with fibroblast-like cells and histiocyte-like cells were noted. Extensive carcinoma invasion and multiple metastases were found in many organs such as mediastinum, heart, aorta, left pleural cavity, abdominal wall, omentum, peritomeum, liver, intestine, adrenal and kidneys. The tumor was mainly composed of spindle cells and had storiform and herring-bone patterns. immunohistochemically, these tumor cells were demonstrated to possess vimentin, alpha-l-antitrypsin, alpha-l-antichymotrypsin and lysozyme

A Case Report of Malignant Mullerian Mixed Tumor of the Uterus

We experienced a case of malignant Mullerian mixed tumor of the uterus of a 58-year-old female. We performed an immunohistochemical study in order to analyze the expression of various antigens in different elements of this tumor. Keratin, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), and epithelial membrane antigen (EMA) showed strong positive results in epithelial component, while EMA also showed positive results in some areas of sarcomatous elements. On the other hand, vimentin and S-100 gave strong positive result in non-epithelial component, but also was positive to some extent in epithelial component in this tumor. Immunohistochemical method was useful to differentiate the different components of this tumor. However, EMA, Vimentin and S-100 showed some unusual results. This discrepancy may indicate a change in the nature of tumor cells due to `microenvironmental\u27 factors such as hormones and vita - mins. Therefore, careful evaluation is necessary to interpret the immunohistochemical results in surgical pathology

Comparative Pathological Study of Coronary Arteriosclerosis in Okinawa, Nagasaki and Akita Prefectures

In order to clarify the degree of coronary arteriosclerosis in Okinawa, we carried out comparative histological study of coronary arteriosclerosis in 418 autopsy cases, ranging from 50 to 79 of age, which were autopsied between 1983 and 1988 in Okinawa, Nagasaki and Akita districts. Coronary artery samples were collected from cases which had arteriosclerosis-related diseases such as ischemic heart diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, renal diseases, and collagen diseases. Arteriosclerotic lesions were prevalently seen in the following order : main trunk of the left coronary artery, right coronary artery and left circumflex artery. Degree of coronary arteriosclerosis was more severe in Akita than in Nagasaki and Okinawa. There was no significant difference in the degree of coronary arteriosclerosis in Okinawa and Nagasaki. Key words : Coronary arteriosclerosis, Okinawa, Nagasaki, Akita

A Case Report of Renal Cell Carcinoma Producing Alpha-Fetoprotein

We report a rare autopsy case of alpha-fetoprotein producing renal cell carcinoma with multiple metastases to liver, gallbladder, mesenterium, and paraaortic lymphnodes. A 58-year-old male patient was diagnosed as having carcinoma of the right kidney. On admission, the patient showed increased serum level of alphafetoprotein (326 ng/ml) which decreased after resection of the renal tumor. The resected tumor was composed mainly of clear cell type of carcinoma cells and partially of granular cells. At autopsy, the main cell type of the metastatic foci was granular type of carcinoma cells. Immunohistochemistry of alpha-fetoprotein by PAP method revealed more positive reaction on granular cell type of carcinoma cells than clear cell type of carcinoma cells in the primary site of the kidney as well as in the metastatic foci
