Feedback Control of Flow Separation Using Plasma Actuator and FBG Sensor
A feedback control system for mitigating flow separation was developed by using a string-type dielectric-barrier-discharge (DBD) plasma actuator and a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor. Tangential jets were induced from the string-type DBD plasma actuator, which was located at 5% chord from the leading edge of an NACA0024 airfoil. The FBG sensor was attached to the interior surface near the root of the cantilever beam modeled on the pressure surface of the airfoil. The strain at the cantilever root was reflected in the form of Bragg wavelengths (λB) detected by the FBG sensor when the cantilever tip was vibrated by the flow near the trailing edge of the airfoil. It was found that calculating running standard deviations in the Bragg wavelength (λB′) detected by the sensor was valuable for judging flow separation in real time. The feedback control of flow separation on the NACA0024 airfoil was successfully demonstrated by setting λB′=0.0028 with periodic flow separations generated in a wind tunnel by oscillating a side wall of the test section with frequency fw=0.42 Hz. It was confirmed that the appearance probability of flow separation tends to decrease with a decrease in the duration for calculating λB′ and with an increase in the duration of jet injection
resection of oligometastases from CRC
A 74-year-old woman underwent right hemicolectomy and partial ileal resection for ascending colon cancer with synchronous peritoneal metastasis. Histopathological examination showed moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma with mucinous component, pT4b N3 M1, and Stage IV. Postoperative chemotherapy comprising 36 courses of mFOLFOX6 with bevacizumab was administered. Twenty-two months after the surgery, computed tomography (CT) revealed a 20 mm nodular lesion adjacent to the gastric wall, and laparoscopic resection of the nodule was performed. Thirty-nine months after the second surgery, CT showed a 24 mm nodular lesion involving the liver parenchyma, and partial hepatectomy involving the nodule was performed. Histopathological examination of the nodules resected by the second and third surgeries showed the same features as the primary ascending colon cancer. The nodules were diagnosed as metachronous peritoneal metastases. The patient followed up without chemotherapy after the second and third surgery, showed no recurrence for 26 months after the third surgery. Fortunately, more than 7 years have passed since the primary tumor resection. Hence, surgical resection for synchronous and repeated metachronous peritoneal oligometastases from colon cancer can offer long-term survival
経営学におけるアクティブ・ラーニング―ビジネスゲームの教育効果の検証―
The faculty of economics, Reitaku University, introduced the business game, which is one type of active learning, in 2009. Although the educational system of business game is created supposing actual corporate management, there remain some concerns about its efficacy. The purpose of this paper is to measure the educational effect of the business game in the faculty. In order to measure its effect objectively using the term-end examination of bookkeeping, students are divided into 2 groups of “students who took the business game class” and “students who did not take the business game class.” Then an analysis was carried out based on the hypothesis that the students who took the business game class deepen their understanding of bookkeeping rather than the students who did not. Firstly, a correlation analysis of students\u27 business game grades and their results of bookkeeping exam was conducted. A significant correlation was not seen in this analysis. On the other hand, the t-test was performed for the above 2 groups, with the result that the significant difference was observed. In conclusion, the fact became clear that an understanding of bookkeeping progresses through the lesson of business game
Identification of a novel biomarker candidate, a 4.8-kDa peptide fragment from a neurosecretory protein VGF precursor, by proteomic analysis of cerebrospinal fluid from children with acute encephalopathy using SELDI-TOF-MS
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Acute encephalopathy includes rapid deterioration and has a poor prognosis. Early intervention is essential to prevent progression of the disease and subsequent neurologic complications. However, in the acute period, true encephalopathy cannot easily be differentiated from febrile seizures, especially febrile seizures of the complex type. Thus, an early diagnostic marker has been sought in order to enable early intervention. The purpose of this study was to identify a novel marker candidate protein differentially expressed in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of children with encephalopathy using proteomic analysis.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>For detection of biomarkers, CSF samples were obtained from 13 children with acute encephalopathy and 42 children with febrile seizure. Mass spectral data were generated by surface-enhanced laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (SELDI-TOF MS) technology, which is currently applied in many fields of biological and medical sciences. Diagnosis was made by at least two pediatric neurologists based on the clinical findings and routine examinations. All specimens were collected for diagnostic tests and the remaining portion of the specimens were used for the SELDI-TOF MS investigations.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>In experiment 1, CSF from patients with febrile seizures (n = 28), patients with encephalopathy (n = 8) (including influenza encephalopathy (n = 3), encephalopathy due to rotavirus (n = 1), human herpes virus 6 (n = 1)) were used for the SELDI analysis. In experiment 2, SELDI analysis was performed on CSF from a second set of febrile seizure patients (n = 14) and encephalopathy patients (n = 5). We found that the peak with an m/z of 4810 contributed the most to the separation of the two groups. After purification and identification of the 4.8-kDa protein, a 4.8-kDa proteolytic peptide fragment from the neurosecretory protein VGF precursor (VGF4.8) was identified as a novel biomarker for encephalopathy.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Expression of VGF4.8 has been reported to be decreased in pathologically degenerative changes such as Alzheimer's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), frontotemporal dementia, and encephalopathy. Thus, the VGF4.8 peptide might be a novel marker for degenerative brain conditions.</p
Minimal change nephrotic syndrome associated with gefitinib and a successful switch to erlotinib.
著作権は日本内科学会に帰属するMinimal change nephrotic syndrome (MCNS) is a common form of nephrotic syndrome (NS). We herein present the case of a 57-year-old woman with advanced lung adenocarcinoma treated with the tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) gefitinib who developed NS. A renal biopsy revealed minor glomerular abnormalities, and the patient's symptoms improved exclusively with the discontinuation of gefitinib. Therefore, we diagnosed her with MCNS associated with gefitinib treatment. A few months later, however, she developed recurrent lung tumors. Following the challenging initiation of the TKI erlotinib, she achieved remission without proteinuria. We thus conclude that erlotinib is a potential treatment option in patients with NS associated with gefitinib therapy
